Starting my 69 Roadrunner resto

Its funny you say that Prop. After i used the Rust Bullet i called a buddy of mine on the phone and we were talking for like 10 minutes and i started coughing. He said you better open the doors before you start getting dizzy. He was right, i went open the doors and was walking a little sideways. lol.

What did you think of the rust bullet? I used it on my trunk floor 12oz can did just about the whole floor. $25 for 12oz can with brushes lol not bad.

I think the Rust Bullet is amazing stuff! I need to do more cleaning on the old girl before i start using to much of it. I got the combo kit with 4 qts of the silver and 2 qts of the black. Havent tried the black yet. I will post more pics next week or so when i do.

LOL...I hear ya man. Last time I used it the wife caught me having a 10 minute conversation with myself out in the garage...

The stuff is pricey, stinks and is a royal pain to get off yourself...but man does it work! IMO beats POR15 hands down. Just throwing this out there, but i'm sure you already know, scuff it up with a 3M scuff pad or 320-400 before trying to overcoat with anything

Thanks for the additonal info Prop. Im trying to find a car rotisserie rental, to make sure i coat the car good. I guess i could use the brush method but i think i would be stoned for 3 straight days laying under the car, then the second coat.

lmao!!

Looking good, and very ingenious how you reinforced the back half of the car with that wood support bracing!

Yeah, when I was applying the Rust Bullet last year on my RR, I thought I actually saw the RR really move down the side of the car with all those fumes! Even had the all the doors open and fans going, too... Like Prop said, if it gets on your skin and dries, you'll wear it for a week.

Rust Bullet is all I use, I use the black shell and it even filled in some tiny pinholes in my trunk, it sure beats sandblasting the shell. I'll need to get some of the silver stuff for some other projects. I wire wheel/sand before applying. Works Great!

I removed the rear window tonite and this is what i found. Now im trying to figure out what do to. I am totally lost. I dont have skills to pull something like that off or to replace with a new complete roof. I do have new AMD full quarters and dutchman panel. Any comments, advice, or anyone with any donor cars for sale?

man that is bad.other than putting on a new roof,i would be at a loss on how to repair that.hopefully you can find a good donor car maybe.

Yikes.....Well looks like it's time to roll up the sleeves and tackle the challenge.

On the positive side, those new quarters are going to come about halfway up the c-pillar. Also, you can buy reproduction lower window corners from AMD. Not that expensive. If the rest of your roof is good, I wouldn't waste the time or money changing the thing out. Myself, I would take a ton of reference pic's and measurements. I would cut out cardboard templates that matched the angle of the lip coming down into the channel as well. Make a cut that follows at the transition where the vertical plain of the roof 90* down into the window channel and across the 90* down from that, in the rotten areas, cut strips of 20 GA sheetmetal to replace the rotton, shape and test fit...Start a Tac at one end, then the other and work down with a tac every few inches till it's fit into place. Once in place weld all along the top transition and where in 90*'s again in the window frame area....That would be my game plan by seeing your pics. No need to get down in the dumps about it. As long as you can weld and cut sheetmetal...You can do it!! Go out there with a "I can handle this" attitude, maybe grab a cold one and spend some time thinking about the steps you're gonna take to knock it out. Alot of us been there in one way or another. Just gotta grab the bull by the horns!

No need for a new roof or a donor car. That rust is not that bad. Just cut it out and patch it. Its mostly flat metal some will probably need 90* bends or a slight curve. My Challenger is the same way except way way worse and I didnt have full quarters or a new roof skin. Cut out some templates and tackle it one hole at a time.
Good Luck!

Thanks for enthusiasm and encouragement, sorry i havent posted in a while. My mother passed away and then i had surgery , so ive been out of service lately. Getting ready to start back after this weekend. Taking a much needed weekend getaway to Pigeon Forge TN. I will keep ya all updated and keep the questions coming when i get back to work. Everyones insight has been great and very helpfull. Thanks to all.

Sorry to hear about your mom, my thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family, that's tough.
You are doing some fine work on the bird, don't let a little rust around the back window scare you. These guys have you covered very well, just take your time and lots of pics and measurements and templates.
Keep us posted!

My condolences to you and your family as well...Very sorry to hear it and I hope you're recovering from your surgery well. Like DetMatt and his Junkyard Dog resurrection, there's plenty of us rust belt junkies around here to help in any way we can.

This is pictures of the motors for the 69 and 70 birds. I know the new trunk floor in the 70 has nothing to do with my 69 , just thought i would show i have been busy, not just on the 69.
