Hey guys,

So Im a newb and I bought my first "classic" car (67 belvedere II) . I am having some starting problems and wondering if you guys can advise me?

First off when in "park" and trying to start I only get ignition maybe 10% of the time. The other 90% when I turn the key there is no action, not even a click. However when I put the car in neutral I can start it every time.

Second thing is when I do get ignition it seem weak sometimes. It's only a quick start about 50% of the time. The other half of the time i have keep that key turned a few seconds to get it started.

Please keep in mind I am a total newb and thank in advanced!

Best,
Fuzz

Problem #1 is the neutral safety switch from the sound of it, replace it and you are good

Problem #2 - this is not a fuel injected car, they do not just start by turning the key, you have to learn what your car likes and start it that way every time.

Thanks KB! Yea this is my first carbureted car. Ill try experimenting on starting the MFer. Im always a afraid i ll flood it.

No problem they are all a little different. If its cold I usually would pump it once or twice and then start. If warm I just turned the key. And when those two didnt work, mix it up a bit...its a learning experience to see what it likes.

If you flood it let it sit or get out the socket set and pull the plugs, clean dry and try again.
