Hello all, My 66 charger 383 4 spd is on the hoist at the shop having the 833 trans redone and a new clutch. My flywheel needs to be replaced, after endless searching I finally got a line on a couple but I need to know if my crank is steel or cast. how can I tell by looking at my old flywheel?

Thanks in advance.

it's a steel crank. I dont think any 383's ever had any cast cranks. If it was a cast crank, there would be external weights on the flywheel.

Steel. You can verify this by checking the balance on the original flywheel. It should be balanced neutral. The replacement should be the same. Should also be the same flywheel as a 440. "Should" be the 143 tooth, and they aren't hard to find

Thanks guys, doing a little research I found out that all 383's, except the 1971 383 2 barrel, came with forged steel crankshafts and you guys all confirm. I'll be picking one up tonight...it's Moparfest in Newhamburg next weekend didn't want to miss it.

Thanks again Mopals,
Rodger
