Steering column question for my 67 Coronet

Hello everyone, I am new here and this is my first post on this Mopar website. I hope someone can answer my question.... It's probably a very simple procedure, but I have never done this. I recently bought a 1967 Dodge Coronet and wish to remove the dash. My shop manual doesn't show all the steps, but I know I need to "drop" the steering column to do this. I've already got the windshield out and everything is ready to go but.... exactly how do you "drop" the column? I see 2 nuts and 1 bolt that attach to the column, but then what? I figure I need about 5-6 inches of drop to lift the dash out. Sorry but I'm a newbie and greatly appreciate a pic or two of how it's done. Thanks in advance, and thank you for allowing me to post my question.

i have a 66 and i think its just loose those two bolts to lower column. remeber that the column goes into the engine bay so pay attention to what is happening in there when you start lowering things

There is a black plate bolted to the firewall with 4 bolts. The carpet will cover most of this plate. Lower the carpet to see it. Remove the bolts and slide the plate toward you off the floor. Then the column will lower down and rest on the seat.

If you don’t have the seat in there you need to remove column from the car. Locate the roll pin on the coupler at the steering box. Get the correct diameter punch to drive out the roll pin. Then pry the coupler from the steering box.

Don't you need to remove the windshield to gain access to two bolts below the weatherstrip on 66/67 cars?

I've heard you can flip the speed nuts over and put the bolts in from the bottom once you have them out, but I've not seen pics of this.

YY1 what are you saying here? Guess you never done this job, eh? That won’t work. There are 4 bolts under the windshield gasket that retains the top edge of the dash.

Hello all,

Yes, the dash came out with success. Dropped the steering column, unbolted the dash and it slid right out with ease. Actually blasted the dash shell and repainted it as well. Just waiting to have some free time to remove the '67 era wiring and re-do it with the kit from Kwik Wire purchased earlier this year. Thanks again for all the replies, I greatly appreciate it!
