Steering column restoration - removal of the pins from the harness connector; How??

I am in the process of restoring the steering column in my 1969 Plymouth Road Runner. The car has a 4-spd standard transmission so gear selector to concern myself with. However in breaking down the steering column I have hit a snag.
How do you separate the wire pins from the signal / horn harness connector at the base of the column?? What's the trick ??
Should it be important the car's build date was Sept 30, 1968.
 
A jewelers screwdriver works well too, just remember to pull the tang back out to catch when you go back together.
 
Yes, I just use a tiny flat blade screwdriver. Slip it in on the plug on the connection side of the hemale terminal to depress the little sheet metal lip or tang on the terminal and pull the wire/terminal out. On the mail side I use the screwdriver to collapse the side spur in to where it clears the recess on the plug and pull the wire out. I use the blade to spread the spur or tang to where it will lock in the plug before reinserting.
 
Go on Amazon and buy 1 of these terminal kits, they are only a few bucks. You will need 1 like I have in my fingers for the steering column connector.

they set a tool that releases the spring clip on the metal pin - then you just pul out the wire/pin from the connector.

think it can be purchased from a auto parts store, but 100% sure you can get it from a tool truck ie: Matco etc..

To clarify......you go in from the wire side? Are you inserting the flat tool underneath the pin in line with the wire you are trying to remove??
 
the pins are round, so u use the smaller round part of the tool.
the tool will slide around the pin, then you push down while holding the plastic block. you will feel that small clip pop, then pull it out of the plastic block.

think u may need to go in from the metal pin side.

I know on GM harnesses it is from the wire side.
been a while since I did a mopar one.
 
The pins are not round on a 69 B- body. This is what you are working with. See the little tab sticking up?

been a while since I did a mopar one.
The pins on a '69 are square and the tang is on the side of the terminal. The tang is tweaked from the connector side as it prevents the connector from coming out of the housing when you connect the plug. Tweak the tang back out, and when you re-insert into the connector, make sure that it stays in.
 
on my 70' GTX and the 70/71 E/B-Body cars they are.

did not realize 69 and earlier are that type of clip.

They went to round in 70.
