steering wheel question

So is the NOS one is Unrestored also, ....it's NEW,...with the Original box.......maybe they are two different suppliers.

 Don't know about suppliers at all, but it wouldn't surprise me if they had a few.
Anybody else have close up pic's of their org wheels??

I know they had different suppliers for some other parts, ....but I have never hear of different suppliers for the wheels,.... Anybody else got any wheel pics they would like to share ?

NOS wheel... I will try to take better pics in the next few days... my camera is old & tired.

I will also take pictures of some driver training take-off wheels that I have...

Now that looks correct to me. Also looks very close to the grain and color of my org. The light colored wheels just don't look correct to me.

My 69 Hemi R/T Convert. is a St Louis built car, ...It has 47,000 original miles, ...was taken off the road in 1974, ...It is original , unrestored and still wears it's original paint, and is HAS the lighter colored wheel WITHOUT the deep heavy wood grain.

I'm not sure what other people consider correct for their cars, and what ever they consider, I say "To each His Own", .............but I KNOW whats correct for MY car.

I don't know what you have, but my car as most I have owned were/are St. Louis cars. Never seen a survivor wheel in that light color. Saying that I posted on another mopar forum asking in general about color and grain. All responces were the darker wheels, and it was said that 70 was a tad lighter, with more grain. I then posted a pic of that light NOS wheel, nobody seems to know anything about it. Why would they make such a light color when any other woodgrain used on specific cars is much darker than the wheel? Have you done any reasearch on the lighter wheel? I also find it odd that a couple here have never seen a wheel like mine and the dark NOS wheels.

I have had 6 other B bodies with wood wheels, .....all of them were lighter, .....except for one, .......and it had a restored wheel in it.

Sure they weren't faded? How about the grain, it seems they didn't last through too many years and did smooth out and get lighter with use. I have had many lighter org wheels with this type of wear.
The other thread I posted was on Moparts in the resto section titled 68-69 woodgrain wheel if you may have any interest in checking it out.

I'm sure, are you sure they weren't faded and worn as bad as you thought they were ? , ....The NOS, light one, that Stuart posted the close up of is mine, ...it's light and does not have the heavy grain on it and I pulled it from the original box to take the picture, ....I thinking there must have been different suppliers for the wood wheels,..... I'm trying to dig it to it now and see what I can find out, it's going to take some serious research but it's a crap shoot, I'm not guaranteed an answer by no means. I will post my findings. Maybe we can find out what in the world is going on with the Dark/Light wheel issue.

That's why I started a post on Moparts also. That is a all mopar forum and seems to move along a little quicker. Did you see the post? The thing I can't seem to get by is you have only seen the light and I the dark. Even all my years of owning, parting, selling and checking out these cars that I haven't seen a light, from the supplier, wheel like that.:shruggy:

I personally have seen too many Light once to come over to the Dark Side, :rolling: ............maybe I can find out whats going on with them, The only dark ones I have seen were either E body wheels or restored wheels, .......I'm still leaning to the possibility of different suppliers on these, Which is very likely, I have seen too many instances were Chrysler used multiple suppliers.

Hey Stuart ! Is that a light colored wheel I see there in your Birdable ! Looks like a nice, Original, Unrestored wheel to me

I dug it out in 2007 it had been in the trunk of my brothers 70 road runner since 1975 all wrapped up with no exposure to light , its not perfect but the car it came off was parted in 75 with 30 k on the clock . I do still own my brother 70 that this was stored in for so many years it has 38k on the clock and will be restored one day .

Any close up's of the grain? 22 years in a trunk isn't what I would consider the perfect storage condition. My car was stored in a garage for over 20years and the org wheel on that car wasn't perfect color or grain.
Have either of you checked out the other thread?

i hope allen comes back and post more pictures of his nos one and some more of the drivers ed trainer wheels also

Here are some more of the NOS steering wheel... I am trying to locate the hiding place of the driver training simulator wheels...

Could someone post similar pics of the light colored wheel... including spoke attachment and rivet attachment on the backside...

Allen
