I want to buy a new set of tires for more consistant 60 foot times. I currently have M/T ET STREETS Bias Ply Slicks...DOT approved. 28" tall, 11.2 tread width, 88" rollout, 13.2 Section Width and 16 lbs of air. 4.30 gear. Hoosier Tech advises me to go with 29" tall, 11.25 tread width, 13.2 Section width, 92" rollout and WITH STIFF SIDEWALL @ ABOUT 15 lbs of air because.of my 3695 pound car...so the tires won't "wrap up and/crush" when launching. 13.2 section width @29" is the biggest tire that will.fit. ANYONE HAVE ANY THOUGHTS ON STIFF SIDEWALLS ??

Before you buy a new tire, I would try lowering air pressure a pound or two. Of course they want you to buy a new tire.....more money for them. I have run as low as 12 psi.
P.S. If you're not running the street, stay away from D.O.T. approved tires

That's what they are made for, heavy cars. I ran them but went to a taller tire and they don't come in stiff or I would still have them. I wouldn't think twice.

If your car never sees street duty,a stiff wall slick will hook better than E/T Streets. My street tire is also an E/T street 16.5 X 31.The track tire is an M/T 10.5w slick. The slick hooks better than the streets.
I also opted not to try radials.

We never could get Hoosier's to last more than 30 - 40 passes. After that they become very inconsistent.

I would check into Phoenix Drag Tires PH374
29.5x10.5-15
With a heavy car the sidewall will go away before the tread. When you are consistant like Endagered Species you can see it on your 60ft.
I'm a tuner fish & exibitionsist so it is not as critical to me as I run a one man race looking at ET & MPH.

I use the 30x10.5 Hoosier radial slick on my 4100 pound boat. I'd never go back to a bias myself. 75 passes on this set. Should be good for 20 more. Don't need a big burnout. I 60 as low as 1.37 but usually 1.39-1.41.

Right now since the converter change I am in the mid 10.30 range at 129 and change. Running JD Hi-Gaurd fluid it trans. Gonna switch to Type F before next weekend. Lenny at Ultimate says it should help my 60 slightly. A bit of a disclosure. The 1.37 60's were when I had the 8" PTC in. I only 127 MPH then in the mid 10.40's. Since the swap to the 9.5" body the MPH and ET are better but the 60 is now 1.42-1.44. Maybe a bigger shot off the line.

Wookie.... Lenny also Built My converter. It is a 5,000 flash. What is amazing is the nearly identical performance of our cars. Look at my signature at the bottom of this page. My 60 foot is just a tad slower than yours. 1.46. My e t is mid 10.30s at 1:29 and change also. It is a big decision for me on what tires to buy. Anything I buy is $500 and I don't want to make a mistake. By the way you got to be making more horsepower than me because my car only weighs 3695 fully loaded with me and gas 5 gallons. Please tell me again your build. Thanks Mike

I'm 4100 at the line with fuel and me. I have a bottle on my 451 to get these #'s while the 511 is at the shop.
Nothing special in the 440. Stock forged crank. Eagle rods. SRP forged pistons and an off the shelf Howard's solid flat in the 260 duration range with .650 lift. Indy EZ-1 with a stage 2 port. A Indy single plane and a QFT 1050 Dominator. Spraying 125 out of the hole. 4.30 Dana leave 2500 off the brake.

I've used the M/T 10.5x29.5s. Heads up guys run them around here. Can usually pock up a pr with 10-15 runs for $200. They worked just as well as my 10.5Wx31. My normal tire pressure is 13.5

When I run 10.35's @ 129.xx I go thru traps at 6800. Shift 2x @6400. 28" tall tire with 4.30 gear. Those tires have 88" rollout. I was thinking 29X10.50 stiff sidewall Hoosiers with 92" rollout. 29.5 tires are generally 94" rollout. I didn't want to compromise my 4.30 gear too much more than the 92" rollout. Do you guys think the with the 94" rollout tires I would be giving up too much gear and hurt my ET ???? If I figure it right a 92" ROLLOUT TIRE reduces a 4.30 gear with an 88" tire by about 5% which would make the 4.30 gear to about a 4.10 gear AND a 94" ROLLOUT TIRE reduces that 4.30 gear to about a 4.00 gear....Question is (like I asked above) would going from a 4.30 gear all the way to a 4.00 gear (with the 94" rollout tire) hurt my performance too much. The 92" rollout tire only cuts my 4.30 to a 4.10...not all the way to 4.00.like the 94" rollout tire would do.....thoughts ??

The question is, How many RPMs are you happy with going through the traps ?

The issue is twofold. You want to a) run your number and b) not blow your stuff up in the process.

The whole reason for buying new slicks is for MORE CONSITANT 60 FOOT TIMES. My M/T Bias Ply ET Streets are all over the lot on my 60' times and I am sure it is the tire, not the track prep, etc.I will have a 1.46 time then next run it will be 1.50, then 1.56, then 1.48, etc.
While I am buying tires many guys say now is the time to switch to a "taller tire" for more surface area and also buy a "stiff sidewall tire" for my 3695 lb car. As stated I am currently running 28" tall 88" rollout tires and go thru the traps a 6800 which is 129.xx MPH. My valve springs will support up to 7300 rpm before float.
So....should I stick with 28" tall 88" rollout or go with a 29" with 92" rollout or a 29.5" with 94" rollout ???
ps..I am absolutely going to buy stiff sidewall tires, just the rollout I am wondering about.

Additional: right now with the heat and 3500' adjusted altitude I will be dialing in at 10.35 to 10.38. This fall when it is cooler and better air (1200' or so) I will be dialing in at around 10.25.

I used 28 inch tall/88 rollout with 10 inch tread on my Belvedere. I also used natural rubber tubes and ran between 16 and 18 lbs. With 3.91 gear I'd go over the stripe at 6600 after shifting 2x at 6000.
Are you running tubes?
I'd talk to/watch Stock eliminator to get info as well.
It worked for me.

Would radial slicks not be anything you've given thought to?

G/F as well as another buddy use the 3754x m/t radial pro.
Essentially a 28x10 dot slick.
She does a 1.49 to 1.51
Trap 6700
10.85-11.00 car

He does a 1.47 to 1.50
Trap 6,600
10.70-10.90 car

I use m/t Pro Bracket Radial
9x28 and 3.54 gear
Last Sunday:
1.59
1.60
1.59
Trap 6100
11.25-11.35 car

Have another buddy that uses the Hoosier 9x30 radial slick
That sixty foots
1.32-1.35
Or
1.45 on the back tires
