STP?

It's..... THE RACERS EDGE !
still around here, advertised as high zinc content on the bottle.
All joking aside we used it as engine assembly lube for years with zero problems.

Slippery stuff, use it when pressing close tolerance parts together.
As an impressionable youth, since King Richard promoted it, I used it. And, still do, 50+ years later. We also offered it way back then as an add-on in the garage for a customer oil change.

It was, originally. Then it was Studebaker Tested Products after Studebaker bought the company in 1961, and until they spun it off in 1969.
I’m pretty sure it was that Andy Granatelli owned both studebaker and STP at the same time if memory serves. I know I’ve had several studebaker oil fill caps in the past with factory labels wrapped around them that had the STP logo.
Travis..

Andy Granatelli was the paid spokesman for Studebaker, and was made CEO of the STP division. He didn't own either company though.

By the way, STP contains ZDDP (zinc).

As a HS club hazing ritual in late 60's, we had an inductee use STP as hair cream for an entire school day.
I have spent many decades regretting that prank, he is now completely bald, and I have not lost a single hair.
Life is not fair.:wtf:

I gather you are correct, though I did find an article that said Granatelli sold STP in ‘74. Maybe he acquired it when Studebaker went teets up? I know he was involved with Studebaker land speed racing along with STP. I knew the 3 were intertwined and could have sworn it was because he owned the 2 companies. I guess you learn something new every day.

I lived in Ft Lauderdale from 1955 to 2010. About a mile from my Jr/Senior HS was the STP World Headquarters.
Parked in the front glass lobby was Richard Petty's STP Dodge, visible from the road and lit at night.
Passed by it almost daily.
Didn't realize at the time how historic that was.
Such is life.

Studebaker never really went away, they just shut down their car manufacturing end of the business. They existed decades before building their first car, and had a petroleum side of the business, of which STP was part of. If you've ever seen an ONAN generator, that's from Studebaker. They made brakes and other parts, merged with other companies over the years and are now part of Federal-Mogul.

I have no doubt that Granatelli owned some shares in STP, it was a publicly traded company from 1969 to 1976.
