Stroker vs 383

Are the Eddy heads longer than the factory heads. I only have a 1/4 of an inch behind my alternator and my original stock head. I know the eddy has some engraving on the end. Does this make it longer?

I can measure my heads & see cause I have a few pair of stock ones on the shelf to compare but I thought they were same length. Don't recall engraving making difference. Had "edelbrock" engraved into end of head but shouldn't have affected length any.

Thanks goose69. I guess the Eddys will not fit with the stock manifolds either because of the angled plugs.

Dang! Didn't know about that problem. Learning something new everyday.

Thanks for everyone that helped. I decided to go with the 440 source heads, and tti headers.

These TTI headers aren't cheap. I know they will fit the best. Will I see big power gains or should I stick with the manifolds. I am doing the intake, cam and stealth heads.

They should help out quite a bit, or at least any good set of headers should. Then have an exhaust shop mandrel bend up some exhaust with a crossover? Which intake and camshaft and carb are you using? Need to choose complimenting components you know? Just curious though.

I am not sure on the cam yet. My engine builder will help me on that. So far I have the stealth heads, dp4b intake or the performer rpm (not sure if it will clear?) with fresh air package. Maybe tti headers.

I tend to agree

The eddys are more refined out of the box and will require generally speaking less attention. Although no matter what you choose they will need inspecting and probably some work before you go bolting them on.

Eddy's are made in USA. I don't know where the stealths are made.

I am sure I am opening myself up for some flaming here... But any google search on Stealth heads versus Eddy heads should be enough to scare you into the Eddy's.

I would tend to agree :iamwithstupid: go with teh Eddy's & don't worry about the extra money spent on an American made quality product... The Stealths are cheaper & have straight plugs, BUT if you want to use them for a performance type application you will end up spending extra money on them to have a dependable quality set of heads, there valve springs, retainers & locks are Chinese cheap crap {or were at least} Just my opinion, I've been there, done that... There are tons of threads on this very subject on many sites including this 1... Opinions vary all over the place, some people love the Eddys some love the Stealth's, either way, I would have them checked out by a competent machinist/head guy, the older Stealth's had a ton of issues the newer 1's are suppose to be better....

Wrong

Thanks goose69. I guess the Eddys will not fit with the stock manifolds either because of the angled plugs.

Eddy heads will work, They clear with no plug issues at all...

Bolt on

If I upgrade the 383, which heads should I buy edelbrocks or 440 source. Will the edelbrocks cause any issues with the factory alternator alingment? What size TTI Headers do I need to purchase. Keep in mind I would like to reuse the heads, headers and carb if I decide down the road to build a 451/471 stroker. What size exhaust pipes should I use? I am currently running 2 1/4 H pipe with 2 1/4 flowmasters 50 series.

The Eddys are pretty much a bolt on deal, hardware & all the stock valve train will work, you may need to go to custom length push-rods or shims, depending on style of rockers, how much block decking & thickness of head gaskets, base circle of camshaft etc...

Holley

780-850 holley:headbang::headbang:

:iamwithstupid: Ditch the Eddy 605 carb, get a 750-850dp Holley, Proform, QuickFuel or Promax or equivalent type carburetor it will be less hassle & ready to run, with maybe minor tuning...

Gears

My gear ratio is 3:91, I may switch back to the original 3:55. Shag766 I sent you a pm.
If your going to street drive the car & occasional track use the 3.73:1 is a great compromise, with out giving up too much streetability, you can always run a little taller rear tire...

I really like the 373 gears, the nitrous seemed to like the 355's a bit better tho.

Just so you know the TTI headers will work fine with the Eddy heads. I have them on my sons Dart and I have the Indy EZ heads with the 2" TTI headers on my 63 and the EZ heads also have the angled plugs. The Eddy heads and the TTI's are a good setup and if the Performer RPM will work I would go with it. You will have to measure how far down in the cylinder your pistons are so you can determine your comp also. I would shoot for about 10.0 with the aluminum heads.
Also my buddy and I used to run a 383 in his 68 Cuda that had 10.0 comp and 906 heads that were ported good. He used the MP .557 cam and the TM6 intake with a 750 DP. The car ran a best of 11.42 @ 118 with 4.56 gears and 30 x 10 slicks. Good luck as you should be able to build an easy 12 second car with the 383. Ron
