Played with the timing and a vacuum gauge and for some reason i cant get this motor to idle under 950 rpms. It may hold on but once in gear it stalls immediately. At 950 rpms im only getting 9-10" of vacuum and it goes downhill quickly after that.

Something im considering is a manifold leak as the motor(440) doesn't have a huge cam and only bolt on mods (brand new QF carb, headers eddy rpm etc)

Checked the plugs and they look good. Poked around the manifold spraying some carb cleaner and didnt notice any change in rpms.

I suppose the next step is remove the intake and reseal?

Unfortunately i didnt build the motor so i dont know the history or exact specs...

Motor always fires right up hot or cold. I do get a puff of blue smoke upon deceleration (especially if i downshift it to help braking) which leads me to believe it could have a manifold leak. 440 source says this isn't uncommon on BB mopars when an aluminum manifold is used and not sealed properly. Again i don't know who the heck put this thing together so no idea of the quality of workmanship.

am i on the right path?

Where is the timming set at? Give us some additional information on the carb too. New setup, ran good before???

Could be ignition timing as suggested. Start with at least 10 to 12 degrees advance at idle. 38 total at 2500 RPM and up. Also check your vacumn advance diaphragm for air leaks.
