I’m rebuilding my suspension. Someone has mangled the threads on one of my strut rods a bit and i need to purchase the correct size tap and die. Front of the rod is course, rear is fine.
I have a 1/2 and a 5/8 for the rear, but neither seems to be correct (I’m using the correct tread) 1/2 too small and 5/8 too large.
Anyway, advice and direction appreciated.

The nuts are a crimp lock style IIRC, and should be replaced. As far as the the strut rod, just use a pitch gauge to measure it and buy/borrow the correct die, use a thread file to restore the threads, or buy new as @WileE stated...

IIRC..... It's SAE 9/16"x18 thread. I agree with member 69Bee that you should replace the nut if you can, especially if the threads can't be fixed correctly with a thread chaser for the nut.

As I remember the front end is not a standard thread. Do not quote me but I believe it was an acme thread?

I have the pitch gauge, just cant seem to find the correct size. I'll probably just replace them.
Perhaps just replace the OE rod.
yeah leaning that way, but where to source? Been looking around a bit.
Exactly. You got my point.
source? Looking through all the usual sites but not found yet.

put an ad in the WANT TO BUY section. Call Tony's parts Delaware. Call Stephens performance Alabama.

Got a call into Stephen’s for some lower control arms and an 11” drum. Waiting to hear so I’ll check on this as well. Thx

I did see that. Just need one but if I can’t repair the threads on mine I will bite the bullet and order the pair.
Roseville has the nuts.
I already have the bushings.
I have been doing my homework….

Those strut rods from Mancini are nice, I use them in all my cars.

That is all that is left for it to be in fine thread. It's not metric, the main shaft of the strut that fits the LCA fitting is 5/8" diameter.
The strut is mostly only loaded during braking, in tension, meaning quality threads/nut are important.

Just ordered new nuts from Roseville Moparts…5/8’s was too large on mine to run/clean the threads. I will make sure of that again tho…and double check the die size.

Maybe I wasn't clear, the diameter of the hole in the LCA that the strut is inserted in is 5/8". I have a LCA fitting sitting on my desk as I type this. A 9/16" thread would retain the strut in that LCA fitting and is the likely thread based on what you have shared so far.

Yes I believe so. I have a 9/16’s die coming. I’m sure it is my lack of understanding more than your explanation. Thanks so much!

If you replace one, why not both at that price and be done with it.
