Stuck torsion bar

If you remove the upper control arm bimpers, it allows more drop. This, and loosening the lower control arm bolt, and the torsion bar slides out.

The oe bars have a slight helix on the flats of the hex that can make it fun to get the bars out. Another way to look at it is when you have put some grunt on a fastener, with a six point socket, and the only way you can get the socket off is to go the other direction with it to get it to let go. Same theory applies to the bars. Make sure the adjuster is all the way out, back off the 15/16" nut on the lower control arm like one turn, rap it with a hammer to knock it loose from the k, pry up the adjuster arm as far as it will go and push it the other direction till it stops, pry it up about half of that travel and the bar should slide out. I have a video on you tube doing just that if you want a more visual explanation. Good luck.

I had one that was super stuck. Tried the vise grip trick, a 18" pipe wrench and couldn't do anything but knock the wrenches down the torsion bar.

I loosened the LCA pivot shaft and used a pry bar to lever it rearward. Ended up being about 100 times easier than vise grips.

I'm doing this now. drivers side came out fine. my passenger side wont slide out... ughhh there is so much caked on grease I'm going to clean it as best I can and then try to talk nicely to her and coax her out....

Finally got the bar out. I cut it in half and beat on it with a 3 pound hammer for 25 minutes. What a pain in the ***. Hopefully the drivers side comes out easier.

I just went to garage and got mine out... I ended up lying on my back and rocked the bar up and down and it walked out sorry u had to cut yours

im rebuilding the front suspension on my 65 coronet and i cant seem to get the torsion bar out on the passenger side (havent tried drivers side yet). I have tried everything and it wont budge. I dont care if i damage them as they will be replaced. Any suggestions?
I made a clamping block to fit snug on my bars the tapped the block to remove the torsion bars. Worked great.
