Yes, intake has to come off. Rockers and shafts will have to come out to get the pushrods out, then the lifters can come out. If they're not varnished-up a fairly strong magnet will be helpful.
Make sure the pushrods go back into thier original location. You can buy a valvetrain organizer, but a shoebox lid or something similar will work too.
