1973 Dodge Charger Rallye 340 4 speed manual - $12000
I have a 1973 Dodge Charger Rallye 340 4 speed car. Super Rare 1 of 1 made factory moonroof Export car. 42,000 doc. miles. 8 3/4 rear end not sure if it is posi.. Also car was in Mopar Muscle Magazine Oct 2012 issue hidden treasures.
Car needs restored car is Located near> HARRISBURG PA. Car does run and drive. But has not been inspected I think in like 1985. Car will need to be shipped or trailer to your location. I will help your shipper load the car.

I saw this car at Carlisle this past year. A little rough.
But the point was no one knew what the hols in the rear quarters were for. Factory option or what?

shouldnt be too hard to find out if its posi, just perform a brake stand test.

My understanding is that a sun roof just pivots partially open at the rear, where a moon roof slides completely open to the rear. Of course, this could be a** backwards as this was explained to me by a smooth talking car salesman many, many years ago, so take it with a grain of salt...lol

Is this roof option supposed to be something special? I recently sold a 73 Sebring with the same thing. CLTW000009.JPGdoorvin.jpgfullriteside.jpg

Here is what I always thought it was.
A sunroof is an operable metal panel in a car roof that slides back to let in light and air.
A moonroof is a similar panel but the difference is it's glass and it can let light in even when closed. The term "moonroof" was coined by Ford in the 70s but is now used generically to describe glass panel inbuilt electric sunroofs in vehicles by all manufacturers.

To use the moonroof in light-only mode, all you need to do is slide back the fabric-covered panel to expose the glass.

But holy cow, wait til you read this ... this explains more.
From http://www.sunroofs.org/

Just as a sedan is a distinctive type of automobile, a moonroof is a type of sunroof. Sunroof is the generic term used to describe any panel in a vehicle roof which can let in light and/or air. While most sunroof panels are operable, some may be fixed. The term moonroof was used in the 70's to describe a glass panel inbuilt electric sunroof, and is now used generically to describe all glass panel inbuilt sunroofs. An inbuilt sunroof is one where the operable panel slides between the vehicle roof and headliner, and is often powered but may be manually operated.
There are distinct categories of sunroof products, including: Pop-Up, Spoiler, Folding, Topslider, Inbuilt, Removable Panel [T/Targa] and large roof systems. Sunroofs may be OEM or aftermarket installed. Over 70% of all aftermarket sunroofs sold today are installed for new car dealers, prior to the vehicle being offered for sale. Few vehicle owners know the difference, or that the sunroof may be an aftermarket add-on when the vehicle they purchased included it.

Hello everyone,
Well I purchased the 73 Rallye Charger with it's sunroof (Moonroof). To answer the question of the rearend it's Suregrip 3.55. Cool option! The gentleman was telling me of the history of the vehicle. Last driven in 83-84. They never drove the car in the winter because it would spin out very easily. I instantly jack it up knowing in my mind after that story it probably had twin spin. The 3.55 really tells the story of doing donuts. Found the buildsheet but it is very petrified looking still under the right bucket. When I get it in the shop this week I will dissect it. The research I have done on other B-Bodies pacifically 1972 Roadrunners. A lot of export cars were build for Demos. Not sure of this car's beginning but when they were build export Dealer Demo they came with a lot of rare and cool options. All exports were special ordered. Car has some rust but nothing too critical. A lot of patch work and a new driver's floor pan will remove it.
Does anyone know about factory radio options. The radio is missing. Haven't looked at the build sheet like i said but I was wonder if it has the rear speaker switch does that option come with any Radio. The front kick panels have this percisionly drilled speaker hole pattern. Maybe way back someone like to drill holes. Almost to perfect though. How do I add a photo?

Is that the Charger that was at Carlise last summer? There was much speculation about the holes in the quarter panels. Some thought it may heve been for ventilation with fuel packs in the trunk.
If someone did drilling, they either have a super steady hand or a mold/guide to work from.
Very interesting car. Been talked about some over at the thrid gen forum as well.

Welcome

Way cool car.

The holes in the quarters are perfectly aligned in every direction.

The ones in the kick panel are not. Nice try, but not.

As long as it's not a lynch road car, the radio option should be on the fender tag in the "Rxx" format.

The fender tag is there but it was built at Lynch Road. The holes are some goofy deal that will be history after the body gets a make over.
