In dry storage for years. Carb is in very good original condition but will need rebuilt before going into any car. Carb is for a 1970 440 C.I. with 727 automatic. It is complete even with it's triangular metal tag. Stamped numbers are clear. Was going to restore and use on a future project but had a change in plans. Under previous ownership years back someone had added extra holes in the base and after speaking with restoration experts they indicated that these holes can be filled in during the restoration for show purposes. Price is $590.00.

Shipping costs excluded in price. Anyone that knows Superbirds knows these carbs and in this condition are not easy to come by. Payments accepted will be personal check (has to clear before shipping), bank check or money order. I do not use paypal, Venmo or any other online payment option - my apologies. Located in zip code 14072.

Why is a Superbird carb any different from a run of the mill 4738 U code carb?
Doug

With a build date on the carb tag of the 344th day of 69, that would be the third week of December. If dates are important to the restoration and time frame of the car, it would be too late for the Superbird production.

Nevertheless, if the date code is not of importance, then that carb being as complete and the condition it appears to be in would be a nice one to have restored.

The carbs are not unique to these cars, any 4738S from a 70 model 440 HP would be correct for the application.

^^^^, now if you lose the tag it's an L9 casting and "becomes" a November carb. We'll all get scolded here shortly for commenting on a sale thread.... :poke: :drinks:

Wayne, not scolding you on your posting. I posted that i thought the price was very good and would work fine if your not doing a restoration in which date codes are important. I could not make out a casting date for the body of the carb, but if it was assembled on the 344th day, then the casting would be possibly a "M" dated body. If it was an "L" dated body, then that would work for a very late production Superbird. There is at least two different guys making up the triangular shaped tags.

Unfortunately, the rabbit hole that we go down restoring these cars is an expensive and time consuming venture. In my opinion, if your chasing the numbers for part numbers and date codes, then you want to find the best one to fill that scenario. And that is part of the thrill in doing these cars.

Not you Richard, the mods will clean it up I'm sure! As for the L9, I only know that as he posted that picture in another thread for our new member looking for a carb for his Bird... and L9 may work pending his VIN's actual "ship to Clairpointe" date. That date tag doesn't... for any of them.

Gentlemen, for clarity the tag was not added to the carb after the fact. This is the way I purchased the carb many years ago. From what I understand of the seller at that time it had sat in his dry storage for many years also. It's a good honest carb, as you can see it was likely never restored. It just needs to find a good home but I dont mind if it does not sell as someday I may have a need for it.
