Now that the axle and third member have all been cleaned up, inspected, new seals and bearings. What lube do you recommend? Is there a synthetic that is better that what was used 50 yrs ago. I know I still have to add the additive..

I've heard pro and con to using syn oils in rear ends especially with limited slip units. I've never used it but a buddy did in his race car which had a spool. The car was real consistent and he added syn oil to the engine first, then the trans and then the rear end. The car produced better ET's with each change. The engine did the best with the rear offering only a couple of .001's. There's nothing wrong with today's gear oils. Matter of fact, they are better than they were 50 years ago....
