What constitutes a survivor car? Any specifics they look for? Just curious. Thanks in advance.

I think it varies, depending on who you ask.

Mine has been repainted, but never restored. I consider it a survivor.

My Charger had a repaint in 1967. From the Original Dealer. I cannot class mine as a survivor. Just a good looked after car.

If you're referring to Mel's survivor tent at Carlisle, contact him for specific info. I've had my original 79 Cordoba in his tent a couple of times.

Who is Mel? They have one at the nats in Columbus too

For Mels tent they can have a replaced seat covers and small paint repairs. I’ve seen some like that there.

Real survivors don’t have a repaint or a rebuilt engine.

Mel organizes and does signup for the survivor tent at Carlisle.

Mine has had a cheap repaint over the original paint. Never been restored and never had the engine out.

Those who have seen Max say he's a survivor. He managed to survive the original owner and the second owner's brother's motorcycle being bashed up and down the driver's side! Lets cut here and slice there and dice..... well you get the idea. And since we have fenderwell headers we need to reroute the fuel line. Let's put in a piece of copper tubing and wire tie it to the torsion bar!

If it's still drivable it has survived. So, by that standard alone there are many survivors out there. I don't put much stock into the other boosting hogwash.

Baby Blue fell into this category, two repaints, not a survivor, but never restored. Car was cared for from day one, parts replaced with Mopar OEM as they wore out. Raced and driven 120,000 miles, original engine never apart.

This was my '96 Ram P/U. Original Paint, and driveline. The New owners had it in the Tent last year...

Weren't there "original" show classes that required a minimum percentage of original parts? Seems to me it was a Mopar thing.

When Mel was doing the Mopars At The Strip Vegas show he was easy and let in cars that were 85-90% original.
My 64 Belvedere had 65 Dog dish caps and a Weiand 4 bbl intake with a Edelbrock carb.Dual exhaust. The car had 12,000 original miles.
He just told me to leave the hood closed. Did the same with my 63 Valiant that I did 15'' wheels and tires.
Maybe he just wanted to fill the tent. Not sure if Mel or his son is doing the tent now. Been awhile since I have gone to Carlisle.

Geeze if that constitutes survivers many of the best Mopars on the planet don't fit the bill. Just think of all that never made it off the show room floor without being modified. I would like to see someone tell Dr Norm to his face today. No man your cars are not survivers.
I don't see this bragging and beating of chest helping the hobby. It just says to bad you will never have enough money to have a car for no other purpose than to look at. No don't drive it something might break.
These cars were built to drive and enjoy. That means things will wear out.
Adds in the day didn't project the idea of buy me and park me away into some storage area so I can become a survivor.
Well I done.

They're only Original Once. That's what makes a Survivor. The painted valve cover takes some away, but I should bring it back to Carlisle, where I bought it from a Really Great Couple, and now Friends, before it gets the Transplant...

You guys can get mad all you want. They have rules for this survivor tent. There are not a lot,of,cars that fit the criteria. the whole Carlisle fairgrounds is not a survivor class. LOL.

for me , It has to be original paint , interior, underhood etc etc.

With the exception to routine maint and safety items allowed , such as modern or repop tires etc etc

I think the reasoning behind "Survivor" status is to create a rare and unusual classification....You are far more likely to see cars that are either rusted to the roof, restored to the nines or repainted 3 times than to find a car with original paint, drivetrain, interior and wheels. Seeing cars that somehow managed to remain relatively unmodified and only maintained for 50+ years is highly unusual.
A Mr Norm's car that looks like it did after Norm modified it should still qualify.
I heard that the "Survivor" classification started within the Corvette crowd and is a bit of a fluid definition, mostly up to interpretation by whomever hosts the venue where the show is held.

Exactly. My HP2 has only 9941 original miles on it, yet it is not a survivor.
