Swapping 8 3/4 centers, questions

I couldnt edit my original post

So i took the Duster 8 3/4 out, it looks like its in pretty good shape, no play in anything. Its a 2:76 Sure Grip.

Before is swap it to the Bee, i was thinking if it would really be worth swapping it if the Bee has a 2:93, or 3:23. Sure i would loaf along on the freeway, but wouldnt it be gutless of the line? The car is not raced.

Maybe you racers can help figure out the ratio, i may just do the seals and bearing depending on what you guys think. The tires on the car are 28x10x15's

I marked the tire at the bead, and marked the drive shaft yoke, and rolled the car on the ground. the tire went around once, and the drive shaft went around 4 times. Anyone know what that would make the rear end?

that is one tall gear ratio.you will get great millage on the freeway,but will be a dog around town.i dont think you will be happy with that combo in that heavy of a car.
 
Probably 3.91 or 4:10 in the Bee. That would be quite a change. Really noticeable if you go to 2.76.
 
if both tires rotated at even intervals and your driveshaft rotated around 4 times.. you are looking at a 3.91 or 4.10 gear ratio. agree with 64 belvedere... to identify the rear axle ratio in a non-SG unit and the car jacked up.. you ahve to rotate the tires twice and count the overall rotations of the driveshaft.. just an fyi.

I run 2.76 gears in my '67 340 4-speed Cuda with 27.5" tires and it is gutless off the line, but gets great mileage, around 20mpg on the freeway at 65-70 mph. My '70 Satellite 318 904 wagon has 2.76:1 gearing from the factory as well. Nevertheless, I think if you do a lot of freeway driving, that 2.94 gears are probably a better compromise - especially considering the size of your tires.

I've seen several highway geared cars with a SureGrip in them. You just never know who will order what.....heck, even my 2000 Durango has a limited slip unit in it.....because that's the way I ordered it.
 
i would keep it, you said you were not going to drag race it, and it being a "dog" off the line.. well um.. you are NOT going to drag race it remember? Who cares is she will not win any light to lights.. take them from 65mph and see if they can keep up.

I would keep it, you will get better gas mileage and with gas prices now, that is only going to allow you to afford more events during the year.
 
I would leave the 3.23 in the Super Bee. I have a 3.23 in a '68 Satellite with a 383 and it wouldn't be worth swapping a 2.76 in and lose the performance when I'm already getting 17 mpg having fun with it.
