swapping drivetrain

Planning on swapping out the small block/ 904 trans for a 440/ 727 trans soon. I will be working mostly by myself, so my question. Would it be better to remove the transmission first then engine? I do have a engine picker and floor type tranny jack.

Installing the new BB, same in reverse order?

That would be my preferred order.
