Looking to swap out the period correct (not numbers matching/not a purist) 440 engine with a 440 crate engine. Considering a complete/turn-key crate engine. Any recommendations on whom I should buy from? I've done some research but word of mouth and personal experiences are the best. Thanks!

I know when I've been to Golden for work there's some healthy sounding Mopar's in the area... So someone knows a little.... Maybe ask around at some of the cruises...

BTW I see you just joined.. Welcome!! Haven't been a member long myself but it seems like a great place so far...

Mind if I ask a question? Your screen name is Mopar Girl 69 but you Coronet is a 68....

Agree, welcome to the forum, try to post something in the welcome wagon so the natives can know you a little bit more, and your car too, love the color of your 68, just what I have in mind for mine.
Btw :xscuseless:

Yup, I wish mine was dark blue... I know most folks like the red but I was never a fan & yet I have red 68 Coronet R/T.. I had a red 70 Challenger too... Just how it goes..

Whatever you Buy ? and IMO....
pay a little extra and get it DYNO'd before putting it in the Car, it's the best money you will spend out of the total !

There are crate 440's out there?

Oh, and WELCOME! :welcome:

The only places that i know of that advertise 440 crates are indy, and carolina machine engines. Check reviews of cme, and i dont think anybody on this forum would recommend Indy. Their parts, yes, depending on application. Most will recommend you buy indy parts from a dealer, not direct.

There are lots of excellent custom endine builders that can do any kind of 440 you want, but they are CustomEngineBuilders, and expertise comes with a cost.

Just a note of explanation, most performance crate engines now are built on NEW blocks that are available for small chevy, ford, big chevy ford, ls etc. The last production 440 block was 1978, not counting the aftermarket blocks that have dried up, disappeared, or cost a fortune.
There is just no supply to build crate engines with.

Thanks! My birth year is 1969; my Coronet's birth year is 1968
I've looked at Carolina Machine Engines, Napa Ironclad, Jasper and a few others online and most stated they magnaflux the block to check for imperfections which could lead me to believe they are a 60s/70s period block. Jasper got horrible reviews esp on their so called warranty. Napa didn't get as many bad reviews but their warranty was also lacking. Summit is supplied through ATK but I don't think the 440 is available anymore. Thanks for the info!

Oh I will get it dyno'd for sure! Esp after it's installed when it can be dyno'd grabbing gears.

Well said, and it's the truth !
We can sell 440's as fast as we can build them, and that's only as fast as we can acquire and PASS a good core to work with beforehand ! (tougher and tougher each year)
and I still get 5-10 calls a month for the "lowly 440" series builds we did and posted the Dyno sheets on.... hence why I published the Parts Lists so others could copy those builds closer in their own geographical area ? (if THEY have a good core)
