Switch key buzzer

Hello, I have no idea about electrics, so my question is: is the switch important? What function does it have exactly?

Not important.
It contacts a buzzer when the ignition is in the off position and the key is fully inserted, its to help remind the driver to remove the keys before exiting the vehicle.

The switch mounts inside the steering column with 2 screws ,and activates the warning buzzer when key left in ignition.

NOS switches are Listed for good money on Ebay and other sites?
Not important until you lock your keys in the car

Sometimes 2 screws, some other just one accomplished with a molded guide stud on switch.
