Hi to all, sorry don't get to post much but seem to be on here all the time!. So you all know I'm in the UK and kinda restoring a 1962 Polara 500 convertible. This car apparently was campained around the PA dragstrips way back and been in storage for many years since. Always been a 4 speed car but motor was long gone when I bought it but a stock '67 440 is ready to drop in. Anyway, the dash pod has got holes all over it where tacho's etc where fitted and I have a replacement pod which I will be fitting. Now I've got everything except the light switch knob off ready for the swap but can I see how it comes off? can I heck, don't want to force anything so put me out of my misery someone, I know it's easy when you know how. The same looking wiper switch knob has a grub screw into a slot on the shaft but has neither on the light unit . Coming over in July for the Mopar meet at Carlisle PA, can't wait hope to see some of you guys there who's going?. Wife's agreed to give me a few days at the show then more time with a coupla other parts guys, in return I gotta take her shopping in New York that's gonna hurt but she's a good girl so what can ya do. Hope to get some pics up soon, cars pretty solid but does need floor work and an armfull of missing parts. More questions to follow I'm sure.
Love this site, you guys here keep my dream alive.

There is a spring loaded button on the switch base. Hold the button down and pull the knob out. There will be some resistance. It doesn't just slide out easily.

!962's were not available with 4 speed, 3 speed manual or 3 speed automatic only .

Nice description above. Don't try pulling too hard on the knob, as it will damage the switch. Some CRC/WD-40 or similar down the shaft will help lubricate ready for extraction. :icon_thumright:

Thankyou all for that descriptive answer, worked a treat in seconds.

Badlite i guess i should have said always a man. Trans car, knew it wasnt the original trans, if a 3 speed were they all floor shift or were some column shift?
