Tach 12v source

Is the 12v pin for the clock on the tach

No, the clock is a separate single spade style connector on the end of a wire. I believe it might be pictured in the bottom of your photo near the pink wire.

Both that 12V and the Coil are for the tach. It will not operate properly without both.
