I have a nice 60's Dixco tach I want to use on the '65. I just need some ideas on how to mount it. I don't want to drill into the top of the dash.
I was thinking of making a bracket that would let me mount it up there but come down and attach behind the heater control plate screw.
And the tach gets grounded through the mount.

Unless you build a sturdy bracket, you will likely experience a lot of vibration of the tach due to its size and by mounting with a single screw. The up side is if you do, you haven't butchered anything in the car. You can then try plan B.

Nice score on that Tach. I strapped mine to the column-with a rusty hose clamp. You can figure out the ground. Mine works fine there, no holes and in honor of Wailin Galen Govier.

Sonny likes it here...no holes....
of course she's (the '63) not a race car, just a crusier.:3gears:......

Can't do the column- mine is a column shift car.....

What about making a couple of steel plates to sandwich part of the speaker grille. Use small 4-40 screws to go through the speaker grille slots joining the plates. The bottom plate could be drilled and tapped for the 4-40 threads. Pad between the top plate and dash. 1/4" stud(s) welded to the top plate to allow the tach to be mounted to it. Wires through the dash at the defroster area at the windshield base. Just an idea!

you have something there! Does that mean the speaker has to come out?

Made this bracket for my 64. bolts under the top lip of the dash.

My buddy here at work mounted an amp in his trunk using neodymium magnets. No holes - looks super clean - withstands the g-force of a pretty wicked holeshot

Magnets placed in close proximity to the meter movement may adversely affect the accuracy of the meter. Just a thought for you to consider.
