My tach in my 67 seems to work fine at idle, seems ok at cruising too, rev the car up and the tach goes up as you would expect but when Im driving down the road going through the gears (its a 4spd) either the tach dosent work or my gut and ears are off cause I dont think it has ever gone over 3500 rpm.

I always use a timing light and a helper to confirm my tachs. My wife gets in and slowly revs it to maybe 4000 rpm in 500 rpm increments using the tach and i confirm using the timing light.

Fwiw, I've never had one that was off.

I'd guess most healthy big blocks can safely go to 5500, but it really isn't necessary. Just go to 3500 to set your mind at ease.

Sounds like the tach board is going out. 67's have a tach board inside the tach itself. I can rebuild it. Look up
The Gauge Doc.

Thanks

Mark

Thanks for the reply Mark. I will probably take you up on this over the winter, I was just checking out your site, very informative. (its been bookmarked lol)

I have a few bugs within the gauges I would like fixed. My speedo needle dosent light up, everything else does, the tach seems off and my gas gauge stopped working. Ive read that if the gas gauge isnt working it affects the oil and temp gauge but they seem to be working fine visually. Im in Nova Scotia and shipping is just a killer for me but it appears not any joe can work on these EL gauges so I will have to cash in some of my old $2 bills over the winter!

Thanks!
