What was/is the purpose of these on the 70 charger tail light harness? I didn't put a multimeter in it, but they look like wire taps, but why?

On my '69 RR harness i found bared strips on every wire that were taped up - under the factory tape wrap. Obviously for trailer wiring. But my car NEVER had a trailer hitch. Maybe all harnesses were done that way for a dealer-installed trailer option ??

hmm, trailer hitch idea never even crossed my mind on a car.. maybe it had one in its early days, but I've never seen any evidence of it. interesting.

I used to install bolt on hitches in the dealerships I worked for years ago. It could have been removed years ago and not be obvious today.

My dealer owned GTX had a trailer hitch and a station wagon camshaft for torque when it was a daily driver. Still has the cam, but the hitch was removed 40 years ago.

FYI I'm trouble shooting a wiring issue on my 72 Charger and in my research I have found wiring schematics showing a connection listed as "trailer". Chris Birdsong tows his cars with a 68-69 Charger.
