I am in the process of setting up my Max Wedge style 63 Dodge and wanted to ask about the carb throttle arms Dan sells to operate Edelbrock carbs for the setup. I really just intended to buy the arms and call it a day. He was really nice on the phone and after taking all the order details he says " what are using for jetting?" I told him I was going to use two 500 cfm carbs and he says right away "no, no, no! Ya gotta use 600`s."
Long story short, he was a treasure trove of really good info. and extra helpful with set up and mods to make the carbs really work well on a 440 maxie setup. Man am I glad I called him.

Yah, he's a pretty wicked dude. We've bought a bunch of stuff from him over the years and really like dealing with him. A treasure trove of knowledge is an understatement. I like to think that I generally know what's going on under hood but he can make a guy feel like your talking about quasars when it comes to tech.

I just ordered one of his dual carb sycronizers. He was telling me a bunch of stuff to do to the carbs to get them right. WAY over my head. I will call him back when I get it and start to mess with the carbs.

Wedge, Would you consider renting me your scyronizer when you are finished using it?,

I spoke to him before and one thing led to another and next thing I know I was making him a set of carb spacers for the 413 inline dual quad setup he has. He said he would send me some custom made gaskets but that never happened, which is mildly annoying. He did seem to be full of useful info.

Yup, a long time racer...walking talking book of knowledge with a lot on his plate. Has he opened his shop back up?

you could have made them for 1/2 the price,2 carb covers from mr. gasket and the 2 air valves that jegs or summit sells.
so easy a caveman could do it.:tongue3:

Maybe once I see it then maybe I could make it but 1st I think you would have to at least have an idea on what you are building. This info would have been useful before I ordered it. There went some of my cash that I was going to spend on 02 Alert system.:sad2:

That's exactly what I thought when we got ours. Our brothers who race to the South sold us one of theirs for a fair price though.

Glad to hear his shop is buck up, he's had some hard times the past few years.

Dan`s shop is open for business......Superstock,can you describe the air valves available at Summit etc. looks like I should make a sycronizer.

His carb synchronizer is the cheap old VW type that I used to see everywhere. The thing that makes it fancy is the hat that goes over the air horn, which can be a coffee can sort of thing. When used on an individual runner setup the one he sells bounces all over the place but I have used this synchronizer on my old Porsche 911 and it was 100 times better than the type Dvorak sells -

You can also make one out of some tygon tubing and a wooden yard stick for about $5.00. Kind of like this one but with a valve to let air in so you don't suck the water into the engine -

I will say that none of this is completely necessary because on a typical dual quad system all the barrels are seeing all the cylinders, or at least in the case of the divided plenum manifold, the left and right side of the carbs each see 4 cylinders. There is nothing to really "sync" here. All you have to do is assemble the carbs so the primary throttle blades are all in the same position and uncover the same amount of transfer slot at idle. A good calibrated eye can do this. On an individual runner setup like my old Porsche 911, where each cylinder has it's own fuel system that is completely independent from the rest of the cylinders, carb synching is a must. I don't know what the Dvorak setup costs but IMO I'd spend my money on something else.
