My temp gauge has has not been working for some time. I put in a new circuit board in the dash as well as a new voltage limiter. The wiring from the sender to the plug on the board is ok, showing continuity. Neighbor said unhook wire from sender and ground it and turn key on and if gauge is ok it will peg. Is this a good test? I tried it and the gauge did not move. Is there a way to test the gauge with a meter? Dave

Grounding the wire with the ignition on is a good way to test to see if you have power to the sender. If it pegs your good to go if not you have to follow the wire to your problem.check it at the bulkhead also.

you can test gauge with OHM meter....should have about 21ohms across the 2 terminals on the gauge....if it shows "OL' on the meter, gauge wire inside is burnt up

Just like you said A383. Gauge wire burnt in half. Tried to solder it back together, but does not seem to take solder. Any suggestions? Is it possible to put the wire back together? Pretty fine. Dave

you cannot fix it...it requires a special wire that is wrapped in silk...it's a Ni-chrome wire and it ain't cheap...there are a number of places out there that fix these....or just buy a new gauge

I think R/T Specialties has gauges for around $80....or is it someone else...I don't know
