I need to make a temporary wooden engine stand for transporting a 440 BB in my pickup.

I'm sure someone has built these before

A good stiff 6-10 ply used tire is hard to beat just for transport in back of pick up

Easy, 2x4's and 2x6's nails or all purpose screws.
If you have a extra oil pan it makes it very easy as you use the pan to set the 2x6 rails.
Only photo I got.

If it's a fresh rebuild, @Darter6 stand is the way to go. If it's a used engine, you can't go wrong with a tire.

I’m building one similar to this and am mounting on an old furniture dolly so I can roll it around. 2x8’s and 3/4 plywood.

For transport in a pickup bed, tie downs are everything. I like going from the cylinder heads to each corner of the bed. Chain from the back of the bed to the engine, tie down straps to the front of the bed. Remember its the sudden stops that will get you in trouble.

And I've found many other uses for it too!

Built one for a slant six and did the harbor freight furniture dolly for the base and wheels(like Moms68) to move it from corner to corner of the shop.One day it will get a build.

This worked great for me. Transported in town and highway for a good 50 miles. No damage or movement in truck bed.

I have several furniture dollies that I use and just strap in truck so it doesn't roll around.
