set of rods aint expensive much for stock spec...a worthy replacement. But a very slight bend wouldn't make that sounds I wouldn't think.

318 is decent to do some breathwork on......somebody on here not too long ago was selling a Wieand single Four bbl hi-rise intake for 70.00.....top the motor, new solid cam & lifters..new rockers & shafts...turn it into a 7 K rpm engine
Were there any 69 Chargers built w/ 360 4 bblS....i always thought mine was a 318, but it WAS a 4 bbl & it was definitely an OEM setup....that thing would use a set of points in 2000 miles.the problem with doing that is the new pressure itll put on the Stock Bottom end...esp trying to spin at 7k...
i think his best bet is to re-cam/lifter it and enjoy it while he collects his 360 swap stuff.
this Can get involved too, adding up costs.
full gasket set,timing chain,probably plugs,oil,etc.
But,if you have all your stuff there tho,
you can get it done in a weekend easy and be enjoying it sunday afternoon.
and hey make sure you inspect the underside of that rocker arm where the pushrod rides and check it for Any damage too.
i do have one other question for you.
your transmission linkage for the Kickdown,is it For a 4 bbl?

I've done some pretty crazy stuff to my junk and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one lol but never hammered a push rod back into shape.....but the thought crossed my mind before on engines I didn't care much aboutOr you might be OK, when this happened to me the motor had been unopened for, ummm .... weeks, and it let go at a stoplight. Drove home 3 miles, hammered that puppy straight, put it back in, and haven't had a problem with that pushrod in 35 years and many miles.
A buddy and I threw some left over parts at a 72 318 Demon with 115k miles on it. We even lowered the compression by using a set of mildly ported 360 heads, .480 lift cam, headers, intake yada yada and lots of gear in the 8 3/4 and ended up running 13.51 with it @ 102 shifting at 6200. We would have taken it higher except that's all it had in itthe problem with doing that is the new pressure itll put on the Stock Bottom end...esp trying to spin at 7k...

In 88'
Dayton Ohio, Wright-Patt, my bud and his wife had a bad fight
So; my ex wife and I go to cool them down.
I didn't know he was drunk.
He and I took a spin in my 67 HO GTO 4-speed
He missed 3rd gear (M-20)
Over reved the engine
I thought a valve floated
I drove it another month or 2 here and there, pulled the head.
Hole in the #8 piston...oops!
Float on thru to the Other Side
Yup, a Valve did float...ha ha
lol yeah weve done a bunch of mild hopups on those 318s and 383s.A buddy and I threw some left over parts at a 72 318 Demon with 115k miles on it. It was like it just ran out of steam and flattened out. The engine still had good sound but just didn't pull anymore. We had the 933 springs on it and they were new. It surprised the heck out of us too that it went to 6200 let alone go that fast. First time out was with 4.10 gears and a pair of short MT ET streets and crossing a little over 5k and was blowing the ET's off going into second. With that, it went 14.0. I had a pair of 29" tall 9" slicks so we tried them next time out and they solved the 2nd gear shift but now it was crossing at even less rpm but responded with a 14.7something. Weeell, I had a set of 4.88's laying around so why not. Shifting the same it crossed @ 6100 and did a 13.51. 60 foots sucked with a 2.02 but the 102mph was pretty cool along with the ET. The engine was dead off the line using a stock converter but woke up at 3000. Looked funny using slicks and no burn out lol. Terrible combination but we were just throwing spare parts at it and was kinda interested to see how much the old teen would take. The engine did fine but the transmission said it had enough the last time out. It too was a 115k mile unit. We didn't kill it completely but it was turning the fluid dark and the shifts were getting weaker...lol yeah weve done a bunch of mild hopups on those 318s and 383s.
seems like the neutral balance motors stay together better.
im guessing you got valve float at 6200 ish?
im kinda surprised you got so much out of it using the low comp 72 318 with the 360 heads which lowered it even more??
and hey, bitd anything under 14 seconds was fast.
nowadaze not so much, but back then.....
I'm a novice too.
Alright guys, I've got an update. I pulled the top end apart last night. I bought new lifters and pushrods to put in. I was thinking I could use a magnet to pull the lifters out without taking the intake off, but realized that they were too big to fit through the holes. So now the intake is off and I replaced all the lifters and pushrods. Seemed like half of the lifters were seized up or at least super hard. I looked at the cam and it looks good so I'm gonna keep it. There is no scoring or bad wear marks so that'd nice. Looked at each of the rockers and they all look good, I'm gonna put it all back together and hope for the best!
As far as my engine, it's a 318 with 302 swirl port heads, performer intake, 650 eddy carb, hedman headers, and a 340ish cam. It's actually pretty quick right now. Very torquey.
Beatersrus, no its a janky 2bbl kick down linkage, that's next on my lift to change. Anyone know if I can buy a 4bbl linkage online or should I just go to a junkyard? I'd prefer online because I don't have the time to search a junkyard.
600 cfm*** sorry. It's an edelbrock 1406 and these are jetted down for economy. Sounds like he needs more gearing and more compression.
