I restored my Charger with three things in mind...

1) Rust Prevention... (it's probably the most well preserved chassis on the planet)
2) Highway Cruising... (lots of torque and power available, all downtown and on the highway; it will be driven and enjoyed at every opportunity)
3) Ensure that Carl's original design intent for a Luxury Sport Sedan is clearly visible... (not just the usual Muscle Car mod)

No.3 was the hardest to pull off... especially given the fact that the car will have fat tires out back and a W/O hood scoop up front.

Well, the boys are at it again...
They started putting the fenders and doors etc. back on the chassis for paint, but they decided they weren't happy with the area of the dog leg on the drivers side fender. Apparently the gap between the door and the fender was tighter than it should be at the bottom, and the leg area of the fender was also just a hair short of the rocker... so they cut the bottom section off the fender, made a new piece, and welded it on. It's still mudded up at the moment, but they'll be blocking it out and priming it again soon enough.

I popped over the shop early this morning, and they were just getting started cleaning up that dog leg repair on the fender. It was still a work in progress at the time, but I took a quick pic anyway.
The other two are just pic's I took while I was there running my mouth.

Mine wasn't taken down as far as yours. It was a driver throughout the bodywork and paint. Fortunately, this car was extremely solid. It looks like yours is going to be awesome.

I was at the shop again early this morning having a discussion with Wayne, the shop owner, concerning the width of the Birthday Stripe I designed. I gave him a final measurement before, but he seems to think it will be to skinny. That said, we were out there with tape measures checking visuals against a few Photoshop pic's that I had done for the car. He agrees that the scale LOOKS correct according to the Photoshop images, but still has his doubts.... so this afternoon I printed out a couple of actual size images using 3 sheets of plain paper taped together for each one. I only printed the area of the stripe that contains the Charger Script. One to my scale, and one more in keeping with his thoughts. It's much easier to see it on paper for most folks.

They also finished up that little repair at the bottom of the fender... they're happy with it now.

It would be nice to see a picture or representation of the stripe you're considering. My thought is -- that will be one of the straightest Chargers around -- and they look really sharp with one color (lots of chrome and stainless to accent it). I was considering a "Foose" fade along the bottom of the car (make it a hair darker). In the end I elected to stay with one color. With all that said -- we have our own preferences and that's good. Otherwise, we'd all have clones. And that would be boring.

My 67 came with a black vinyl top originally, and there was no way that I was going to give up my vinyl top option... too rare to ignore. Besides, it completes the package in this case.

On these 1st generation Charger's, the body seems thick (or fat), starting in front of the rear fender wells going straight up to the roof. I considered the Foose fade to reduce that "fatness" -- and it works to throw your eyes off giving the car an illusion of being thinner from the side. I think your birthday stripe also has that effect to reduce this "fatness". If you go back and forth between the two pictures you put up above, you can see the fatness on the one without the stripe.

Hey Reed,
The Charger is ready to go, but.... it will be monopolizing the paint booth for about a week once it goes in because the exterior uses 5 different colors, stencils, etc...
That said, they had a Dragster in there that had to be painted and ready ASAP, and an insurance job to paint and get out in a hurry as well.
Hopefully the Charger will be in the booth in the next week or so. They also have to drill new holes for the Rocker Trim Clips before paint.

Here's a few of that Dragster that had to be out of the shop ASAP. They finished painting it this morning, cut & buff now.
The body panels were reworked and repaired, then assemble on the chassis and match marked for alignment. Then the panels were removed from the chassis and set on a wooden frame that was built to support the panels during paint. This paint job require (21) coats of paint to achieve the final result.
It was originally scheduled for a late May delivery, but a couple of weeks ago the schedule got bumped up to Marched 27 due to a child's failing physical condition, so they had to hit it fast and heavy to make the date. The car will be on display at a benefit for the child.
