I was watching Velocity over the weekend, and that episode of Americarna came on where the guy is out looking for old NASCAR racers and buys the 74 Charger and at the end he wants to compare the 74 Charger with a modern cup car. That show just really bugged me the first time I saw it, and again this weekend.

The 1974 Charger may not have been 100% stock since it had a Hemi in it, but it was sure a heck of a lot closer to stock than that cup car is! I mean seriously, the only thing that cup car has above it, in it, or under it that comes even close to stock is a general body shape! Everything else is customized to the nth degree to optimize performance on the track.

And once again we see a "competition" between an older car and a newer car that's supposed to show how far we've come. BS! How about they take an SS, Fusion, or Camry, the version of the car that's actually sold in the dealership... the cars that stock car racing is supposed be centered on, and get it with the best engine, suspension, steering, etc., provided by the manufacturer, and have that car run against that Charger? Yeah, that they don't want to do.

I can't stand nascar for that reason, they are 100 percent all out race cars. Then there's the politics that did away with the hemis and aero cars, what's the point if it's all going to be policed and regulated to the point where everyone is equal. The old timers like Petty raced the real cars.

Then there's the politics that did away with the hemis and aero cars,

Why were the aero cars from Ford & Chrysler were deemed to have an unfair advantage in 1970, but the 80s aero cars from GM were not.

It seams like everything is good as long as Chevys are doing well even in Drag racing, like I said politics. I just don't watch any form of auto racing for these reasons. We all know the Hemi was king and nobody could run with a Daytona or Superbird at least until they were handicapped. Getting back to Bruzillas point, I'm always arguing with an Earnhart nut at work about who the true King is and my argument is always Petty drove when they still used "cars" not purpose built one off race cars.

It just kinda burns me when they are talking about the Charger's suspension, and mention torsion bars and leaf springs and show each part as they discuss it, and of course it's what we have on our cars, then bring on the Gen 5 cup car. I would sure like to see where the check box is on the ordering form for an SS, or Camry, or Fusion that says GEN 5 NASCAR SUSPENSION Option.

...and it was basically the same design problem.

Didn't they learn?
