I was watching Velocity over the weekend, and that episode of Americarna came on where the guy is out looking for old NASCAR racers and buys the 74 Charger and at the end he wants to compare the 74 Charger with a modern cup car. That show just really bugged me the first time I saw it, and again this weekend.
The 1974 Charger may not have been 100% stock since it had a Hemi in it, but it was sure a heck of a lot closer to stock than that cup car is! I mean seriously, the only thing that cup car has above it, in it, or under it that comes even close to stock is a general body shape! Everything else is customized to the nth degree to optimize performance on the track.
And once again we see a "competition" between an older car and a newer car that's supposed to show how far we've come. BS! How about they take an SS, Fusion, or Camry, the version of the car that's actually sold in the dealership... the cars that stock car racing is supposed be centered on, and get it with the best engine, suspension, steering, etc., provided by the manufacturer, and have that car run against that Charger? Yeah, that they don't want to do.
