The Edelbrock Foundry, when did San Jacinto, CA become "overseas"?

CA is not the "highest business tax in the US" but is one of them. CA corporate income tax rate is 8.84%, PA is 9.99% (though they are slowing phasing it down over several years); NJ is at 9%; DC is 9.975%, MN is 9.8%.

And I've recently made some big dollar Eddy purchases that got delivered in a plain, unlabeled white box; I was expecting some fancy Eddy box, but no, just a plain white box similar to what my 440Source parts came in. Now the smaller valve train parts came in the fancy Eddy packaging. I understand perhaps Eddy is trying to save on the packaging costs, but heck, at least put a Eddy sticker on the box. Now in the hot rod stores they have the fancy Eddy boxes, unless its old boxes leftover for showroom demonstration only.

I live in one of the few "Republican" counties left in CA.
The problem is; California has become so "RIGID" on it's EPA regulations AND the world's 8th leading economy state is utterly bankrupt for all it's social spending programs and liberal "State employee Pensions" that the sate of CA has increased it's business tax to a point it is not feasible to do business in California anymore.
EPA fines
Highest business tax in the U.S
Business have to provide employees with ridiculous "benefit" packages...
etc, etc, etc

Business are leaving the state daily.

I'm so glad we fought our war of independance against England to end, among many things, taxation without representation. However now that I'm being represented, I don't know if I feel any better... :icon_razz:

Ok, after all those posts, then Eddy's are still made in SoCal, right? I read the Wiki article and didn't see anything about importing castings. Not that I care much since my (new) heads are Eddy already, but for future reference

Well there is one way to find out....I've a phone call into them and am waiting for an answer back. Will let you know what I hear.

Okay, I just got off the phone with one of the managers at Edelbrock. So from his mouth to you here is the skinny: All of Edelbrocks "core" products meaning their heads, intakes, water pumps housings, etc, are casted in San Jacinto at Edelbrocks own foundry. From there these items (he said heads but I assume all the cast items) go to Torrance, CA for finish machine work and assy. Heads, for example are machined, cleaned and assembled there in Torrance. He also said (he wouldn't name names) but 'others' basically stole Edelbrocks casting to create their own castings in China which if I heard him correctly is why they came out with their E-Street series. He did offer up that Edel's chrome items such as valve covers, air cleaners and such come from overseas whether that be Taiwan or China, and that they have for years. These items ARE made on Edelbrock tooling and once shipped over are QC'd here in the U.S. He stated that the cost of trying to chome anything in the great state of CA just makes it too cost prohibitive so they outsourced that some time back.

@440Beep: You posted earlier that your Eddy heads came in a white box so I made mention of that and the mgr said that may be the case but that those heads did not leave the factory that way. He said that all of their items come in an Eddy box, with a sku number on it and such.

So there you have it and I hope it helps some of you guys with your questions. Basically the mgr was really nice about it all, took his time to explain everything and even offered me a tour of the plant if I should ever make it to SoCal. So with that being said when I go to buy a said of heads I'll spend the extra coinage and buy the U.S. made Eddy ones.

Hmmm....I only stated that I purchased some "high dollar Eddy stuff." The purchase was not Eddy heads, but an Eddy camshaft and lifters set. The plain white box was sizeable though.

Hey no problem 440, I just mentioned it since you mentioned it. If they were in fact sending things out as white boxed items, I much like you, wouldn't like it and think it tacky. Especially if you are paying top $$ for their stuff. As such I just thought they should know about such IF they were indeed doing such. But they weren't so...*shrug*
