The Great Snow Of 1973 Macon, Georgia

I've told folks about this before and they act all disbelievin and stuff. But here's the proof. I remember it like it was yesterday. The official measurement was 16" at the Macon airport, but obviously, in this video there's a good bit more. We had 24" in our neighborhood in north Macon. I know snow is nothin to a lot of yall....but keep in mind, Macon is about 80 miles SOUTH of Atlanta. It was an historic happening to say the least.

I remember the day I got to Jacksonville, FL in February 1980. I got to the naval air station at about 2:00AM, and went to my room. The room was hot so I opened the windows and went to bed. I woke up at dawn and was freezing, so I went to close the windows and it's snowing outside! My first day in Florida, and I had nothing but shorts and t-shirts for civilian clothes since I was a Pittsburgh boy who thought Florida was nothing but heat and palm trees.

Rusty cool part of history, cool video too... We used to get snow in the "flat lands" in the sunny Calif. SF Bay Area or the San Juaquine Valley once in a blue moon too, usually you have to be "at altitude" for snow here, so it's a real shocker when it snows, anywhere other than the mountains around here, it shuts everything down & people can't function, let alone know how to drive in the stuff, it's kind of comical...

Well, I was born that year. What obviously happened was that when I was unleashed upon humanity in human form, huge cataclysmic events rocked the world. The Yom Kippur War in the Middle East, the Watergate scandal, and the the Great Snow in Macon are all proof that my arrival was a powerful force.
