The Meme not a Meme Thread Part DEUX

Actually...it's a very common term when the only way to get to a bathroom is through its bedroom (i.e. the bathroom is not "commonly" accessible, like from a hallway).

I never heard that term until the 2000's- "Love it or List it" show, which is filmed in Canada.

Never.

Again, "master bathroom", commonly abbreviated as "MBA" is a MUCH more common term in the United States.

in your region, maybe. But around here (MD/VA/PA), it's quite common. Just like y'all have grits - but around here, it's all My Cousin Vinny - "what's a 'grit'?" Up here, crackers are just something you serve with soup, but down in FL....well...

That's a pretty good spread.

I've followed the real estate markets at least with a passing interest in all those areas.

The listings follow the same format.

Within the past, IDK three or so years, I've seen "ensuite" used more often, likely as a result of the penetration of those Canadian shows into the US market.

However, MBA is still a much easier abbreviation to use.

And around here, I've never heard "MBR". I'm IN the real estate market here, and it's either "ensuite", or plain ol' "master bath". Depends, as I said, if it can be accessed by other parts of the house (master), or is solely accessible through the bedroom (ensuite - literally translated as "in room").

MBR? Could be Master Bed Room as well.

It's all regional.

Oops, typo.

MBR is master bedroom.

MBA is master bath.

These are extremely common abbreviations.

Regionally? Sure. But that doesn't make it a national thing. That's my point. My mother - who spent most of my life in the DC area - now lives in N Florida, and says **** sometimes that I actually have to look up. She speaks Florida now. Still has her "northern accent"...but she's picked up a LOT of the local dialect now that she lives down there.

I think it's just "standard" real estate and construction terminology.

Google seems to agree with me, at least superficially.

"MBA" returns page after page of remodel ideas.

"Ensuite" returns several definitions of the term and "what does_____ mean" entries.

In fact the entire first page is that.

I guess one difference is that any bedroom can have an "ensuite", while an "MBA" is pretty much limited to the master.

Couldn't find any "ensuite" memes or captioned photos....

Up here in the Great White North, a Master Bath is a bathroom that serves the whole house, usually accessed from a hallway. An Ensuite Bath is accessed only from the bedroom it serves. Usually only the Master Bedroom had Ensuites, but increasingly, on new builds, all bedrooms are getting Ensuite Bathrooms. Our own house has a "Jack and Jill" bathroom. On one end, it is accessible from our Master Bedroom like an Ensuite. On the other end is a door that opens to a hall, that joins the other 2 bedrooms.

Here it's "guest bath" or "hall bath".

"Jack and Jill" is like the Brady Bunch, between two bedrooms.
