I remember loading software from 3.5 floppy disks sometimes the 3-7 disks would take 2-4 hours and with any luck they would all work. I learned to carry multiple sets of disks, drive cleaners, and drives themselves. The world got a lot easier when i bought my first backpack CD rom.

My co-worker and I used to have a lot of fun with simple DOS based word games on our computer terminal at work back in the mid-nineties. I forget the technical name of the program, but basically you construct a series of program lines - all numbered, and tie the line numbers to questions that are pre-programmed.

So when someone sees the screen, all it shows is a question with a flashing cursor ready and waiting for Input. They type an answer, then another question appears...and so on.

This used to get pretty funny at times, and would fill in an hour or so during the shifts in the evening...or before the breakfast change. Most of the time the final answer was either "You're a liar" or something abusive....
It felt like we had entered the 21st Century when an IBM 386 showed up with a colour monitor. Hours of Solitaire on Night Shift. Dot Matrix printers.....all the best gear of the times.
