Like I mentioned, loss leader. Staples like bread milk eggs etc, if they get too expensive, people will go elsewhere. So they lose $2 on a dozen eggs but make it up on other items. Like why turkeys around thanksgiving are .49/lb and regularly they are $2.99/lb
