Well it seems as though we have a new trend with the people who cross the streets of Manhattan.
It seems now that they think its the cool thing to by Walking as slow as they can and making it a afternoon slow stroll to cross all streets in Manhattan.
They don't look up but just seem to have the glazed eye look and just walk at a snails pace.:sleepy2:
Now why I see there are alot of pedestrian accidents in the City of New York.WTF!!

thats why I live in the mt's the only thing that crosses in front of you is deer..I we eat them haha...Artie

They've been doin that in FL for decades. Down here they seem to think they're "entitled" to take their time and brandish their "right of way". Somethimes they even look you square in the eye and slow down noticeably.

Up in Ohio, where I'm from, folks would actually speed up if they saw a car coming, out of courtesy, so the driver wouldn't have to brake.

In Arizona you better be in a painted crosswalk or they are fair game "targets" with no pedestrian rights.

That sounds like the kids here in Virginia who are half a block away from the bus stop when the school bus stops, and everyone has to wait till they get around to strolling down the block and getting on the bus. If the school bus driver sees them, they have to wait, they can't just take off. (I asked.)

The little old lady was perfectly within her rights as she was in a painted crosswalk. How rudy was the asshole in the Benz??? Would he like it if someone did that to HIS mother?

The other side of this pedestrial issue is that many people these days think they have the right away when they really don't. The other thing is that these pedestrians have no consideration of how much traffic they are holding up on major highways and busy city streets as they casually stroll across the street as if on vacation in no hurry themselves so no one else should have to be anywhere at any particular time.

It's been like that in California for years... decades. Mostly it's the younger crowd that has this "you're going to wait for me" attitude. It's as if they think they have power over you because you've slowed down for them and you have to wait.

A few years back I turned onto a multi-lane road from a larger multi-lane road, and as I turned this guy looked up and saw me coming, then stepped off the curb and started his slow stroll. I grabbed second gear with a chirp of the tires and nailed the throttle. The wide-eyed snap of his head in my direction as he darted back to the curb was priceless! He was a bit ahead of me so if he held his ground and kept walking I wouldn't have hit him, but he didn't seem to know that. I don't do that often, that was the only time I have, but man did it feel great! It made up for all the times I had to sit and watch some jackass stroll like nothing mattered.

Nope, it's because they actually do have the power over you. The law says so and they know it. Pedestrians have the right of way, period. This is the arrogant, disrespectful P.O.S. generation that we're raising right now. Thier attitude is 'the law says I'm within my right so F-YOU!!!'.

Your story is great and we's all love to scare the living **** out of some of these jackasses the way you did. You're just lucky he didn't decide to step back and let you clip him, just a lttle bit. He'd own your *** right now - and trust me when I tell you there's a lot of people out there that are dumb enough to let themselves get hit by a car to make a few bucks. The law protects these idiots too.

Last time I was in NY I saw some idiot walk out in front of a bus. It didnt work out to well for him.

Well, the law actually states that they have to be in a crosswalk and they're not supposed to cross the street half way down the block - they can get a ticket for that. Not that it means I can run him over, and I wasn't anywhere near him so if he did hold his ground I could choose another lane and go around him, or just stop. I wasn't concerned that he'd have a leg to stand on, so to speak, he was acting like he owned the road, but I owned him! lol

It just irks me that people just walk out in front of cars the way they do, and expect the driver to stop. But you're right, we don't stop out of respect for them (since they don't respect that it's a road way), we stop because we don't want or need the impending lawsuit that these idiots will file against us if we do hit them. I even see it at the shopping centers, parents with kids in tow will look and see a car coming and just grab the kids hand and walk out in it's path. Great role models, these parents, teaching their young kids to walk out in front of a moving car. They go through the motions of looking both ways, but the brain stops there and the body keeps moving.

I work in manhattan & drive from one end to the other. These people walk around like zombies, with their cell phones & little doggies in tow.... It reminds me of that video game frogger...In todays game their no points in bumping into :eusa_boohoo:people. Just pain.

Hey SS here were I live it seems they all sip on thier GERATOL (spelling?) while crossing the road, LOL. I'm not the youngest guy at 51 but I know not to dart out in front of a Pick-up or 2ton car just to get across the street & when I do cross I make dang sure I get accross fast as to not create a distraction or cause a wreck. I live in the sticks in the Sierras & there aren't many crossings other than downtown 3 whole stop lights on the main drag & a few scatterd arround the area lots of blue hairs (retiries) here in Sonora Ca. area they are the worst of the slow walkers arround here.

Theres one part of Washington, DC, not far from the convention center, that I hate driving through. At busy times of the day the cars and buses have to share the road with pedestrians who treat the street as though its part of the sidewalk and wander back and forth across the street at will down the full length of the block. As you try to work your vehicle through the crowd, they look at you like your vehicle shouldn't even be there. The rest of the city is normal and the pedestrians usually wait for the "walk" signal.

Probably walking to the slow beat of one of those i-pod things.

This is NOT a new trend:eusa_boohoo:It's been like this for years and it will NEVER get better. The Mayor just gives 'em more pedestrian "malls" like in Time Square.SSR,I have been tellin' you for years to get some AIR HORNS.:bootyshake:
