The Real Reason Why Music Is Getting Worse

My spouse was a radio DJ for her career, and I can tell you the music industry is run for money just like any other industry. Don't let your nostalgia or feeling for music override that fact.

Look into local music. One of my favorites (Baltimore area) is Kelly Bell Band (kellybellband.com). Kelly is a great guy and they do some GREAT shows. I have fun every time I do one of his shows. Great guy, nice bunch of musicians, and they're in it for the MUSIC and the FUN.

6'5" and about 300? I'm glad he's on my side!

Also, look under the radar for national acts. Mike Zito. Toronzo Cannon. Selwyn Birchwood. I've worked with 'em all - great guys, every one of them.

- damn lefties, gotta get that Hendrix in!

(that's MY ROOM - Hub City Vinyl IS MY HOUSE!! That is the show I MIXED FOR HIM!! - I got one word for Toronzo. PIMP. Total bad-***. Love ya dude!)

ZITO - another of my shows:

Mike's the reason I run Telefunken M80 vocal mics. AWESOME sound, great rejection, near-zero feedback...love em. Thanks Mike!

Davy Knowles. Bad *** guitarist...but whenever he talked off-stage, all I heard was Nigel Tufnel from Spinal Tap ("these go to eleven"). He laughed his *** off - obviously not the first time he heard that!

Bywater Call. Super polite, eh? Canadians, been onstage with Bonamassa...awesome folks, great music

Station wagons!!

skip to 2:45

more fastball:

...they're out there. You just gotta pay attention.

Naked music is good music— dump the machines! I live listening to all kinds of music, I’ve been listening to music from the 40s big band, why ? Because it sounds more authentic more real , that’s why I enjoy a small band and playing live and let them have a cracks and pops and miss the note.. most new music stinks bad! I used to enjoy a good am station until it went out of business...I also feel a lot of music has very similar riffs, beats are more rap, just sitting there tapping on the high hat isn’t cool it just means you follow everyone else and suck! Music was never perfect, that’s why I’ve had folks say live they don’t sound good and I chuckle.

I am down to CDs for my music now and what will be next. Long gone is 8 track and Coset's. So where will I get to listen to my favorite music next. Went to many concerts when younger and saw the guitarist break a string and keep on playing. New wave music is not the same today. Well guess I will plug up my amp grab my electric guitar and rip off my own music. Fuse box-Wah Wah- Echo chamber. Now I keep on rocking. LOL.

A good portion of my life was in the music business. There are a multitude of reasons for today's musical climate.

BUT....that's not why I am here. Great rock/pop bands that were criminally overlooked, due to changing trends, mishandling at management/record label, etc....

Cry Of Love - Great blues rock band (check out 'Brother' album). Members later played in Skynyrd, Black Crowes and more.

The Records - Power pop from late 70's. Check out first album.

Jellyfish - Power pop. Beatles, Queen, even Supertramp influences. There's much more to know about them, but just check them out.

There's SOOOO SOOOO many more, including bands today. Rival Sons, Dirty Honey, Blacktop Mojo, Goodbye June to name a few.

Blue Murder was largely overlooked. You would have thought that more Whitesnake fans would have caught on, at least.

Enough of my babbling!!!!

IMO John Sykes is the most underrated guitarist in hard rock history.

@Triplegreen500

Kelly Bell, Toronzo Canon, Mike Zito and Davy Knowles commuted in with me this morning. Not a bad one in the bunch, imo.
Looking forward to riding home with Bywater Call, Afternoon Delight and Fastball.
Haven't heard any of them before, maybe fastball.
Thanks!

"The Way" was on our local "we play it all" station yesterday morning.

A left handed Gold Top. THat's cool.

Hawkwind gave us Lemmy. All that matters. :)

And Calvert and Turner and many more.
But I better not post a picture of Stacia.
Collaborative efforts typically are beneficial.
Genesis before Peter Gabriel left being one.

"Getting worse" is in the ear of the beholder. I'm sure that those who produce today's music and their fans would say it's "getting better".

Like so many other things, taste in music is arguable.

I have heard The Kelly Bell band at a beer fest as I recall. They are good. Another area band that gets no love is a group called Carbonleaf.
Excellent, give them a listen

Sorry but most good music died in the early 80's at a min.
Aerosmith, Molly Hatchet, Nazareth were probably the last great
"new" bands, maybe Bob Sieger but he was much earlier...

I never got into "the grunge" (Seattle era) crap,
not even Nirvana crap
or the headbanger "hard rock" mash pits crap,
skinheads ring a bell, no thanks
that crap has no music, just some people on a stage
screaming as loud as they can, most can't carry a tone/note,
strumming & banging

Give me some old Motown, Elvis, Kiss, AC/DC or Nugent,
maybe even Poison, Foreigner or Boston, later
any day, any time over anything new,
especially Taylor Swift
dity bop lil' teen girls crap, waste of $$$ parents fall for that ****, buy into it, feed it
is not music or rock & roll or good music

I'll listen to country (early to mid 90's especially),
any day anytime before most that
headbanger hard rock, you can barely understand the lyrics
or cRapp... need I explain, & no I won't...

people like what they like

I will say that classic rock stations for the most part suck. They play the same songs over and over.
That's why it's called classic rock music, a space in time. Like our cars, we see them over and over and they can't be renewed. Everyone gets their time in the sun.... Personally, the last thing I want to do in my car is listen to swift talk about another old boy toy. Kanye west, I'd rather take a pencil in my pee hole, than listen to him talk sing. That man couldn't carry a tune in a grocery bag. To each their own. But then again, I'm the only guy for a hundred miles around that drives a 65 Dodge Coronet..................

I like 'Quark, Strangeness & Charm'.

I'm fortunate to have Hawks breeding and nesting around my property
Frequently hear them calling. This morning one very close to the back door. Small dog safely inside it though.
You reminded me to listen.
While other bands said "needs more cowbell " Hawkwind used an anvil.
Damnation Alley!

Another great show tonight - Tyrone Vaughn.

Yes. Those Vaughan's. Stevie Ray's cousin. HELL of a guitarist, great voice, and SUPER nice guy.
