Great, now you've got this going through my head...If you think modern music sucks, then you’re looking, or listening in the wrong lane. One listen to Blackberry Smoke, Whiskey Myers, The Georgia Thunderbolts, Chris Stapleton, and a host of other groups that are putting out high quality, pleasant to listen to, hard rockin but still in the vein, may change your mind. We’ve seen These bands a few times live and they also put on a great show. I don’t think you would be disappointed by any of them, unless you’re truly stuck in the past. Which they tend to tip their hats to by the way.
That's good stuff, and quite sad. I'm a big fan of Canada's other prog rock band, Saga. Everybody knows Rush but almost nobody knows Saga. Even prog rock music channels almost never play anything from Saga, it's a sacrilege. Anyway, the number of chord changes in "Wind Him Up" are incredible. That one song has more key changes than most modern pop artists have in an entire album.
Well, my fall from garage was a sight to see, so there’s that! Put that in your One Horse Town and smoke it!Great, now you've got this going through my head...
You look cold I'll build a fire
There's a box full of wine in the fridge
We won't talk about what's his name
That's just water under bridge

Agreed with everything. One reason I like Saga even more than Rush is their songs tend to be more concise and pointed, and less meandering to purely showcase technical ability, if that makes sense. One of my other favorite bands is Marillion (called "neo-prog" by some). I love story-telling and dynamic emotions expressed through musical instruments. Something those 2 bands do almost as expressively as Pink Floyd, though with almost no fan-fare by comparison. I love all three!Whereas that level of virtuosity has never appealed to me as "music" per say I can see why you are interested in it. I think there's a sweet spot between technical prowess and the raw primal essence of beat. AC/DC understood this better than anyone. But the point I think that chart is really getting at is what is considered popular music today does not even qualify as music. It's a monotonous drone, and the so-called artists cannot even sing. Perhaps the worst example is, of course, modern rap. How anyone can consider the noise that Travis Scott and Drake create enjoyable is baffling to me. It is no more than an unlikable bozo with an ego the size of a galaxy mumbling over a Fisher Price drum machine.
I think this line was "My fall from grace was a sight to see"Well, my fall from garage was a sight to see, so there’s that! Put that in your One Horse Town and smoke it!![]()

On the other hand, sometimes those are the worst songs...those infuriating ear-worms that you just can't get out of your head...Agreed. If you can't hum a song, then it isn't a song.
Damn spell check, but it’s funny that I was working in the garage when I typed that. Alexis must’ve heard me or something.I think this line was "My fall from grace was a sight to see"
This is about the only song I like by Marillion.
...but I really like it.
That's what I've thought about Rush all along. Just hammering out extra notes for no real reason. Sometimes less truly is moreAgreed with everything.
