I found this video tonight and I had never heard this story before. I thought it was interesting and maybe you warbird buffs will too. The Red Baron was buried 4 times. And he was shot down by Australian ground fire from troops.

My great grandfather was an Aussie soldier and was one of the first to reach his plane when he was shot down, not sure if he was part of the ones who supposedly shot the RB down though, he carried a piece of the fabric covering of the aircraft in his wallet until he died many years later, my mom still remembers seeing it, but when the family picked up his possessions from the hospital after he passed the piece of material was gone from his wallet sadly

Very Interesting & all this time I thought Snoopy was the RED BARON

Along with the "series of events" paintings I also have the same artists rendering of the Red Baron in uniform, but with my wife being Dutch and her Father seeing a German gun held to his Father's head way to many times in Holland during WWII it's in a drawer somewhere...

I have been fascinated by the story around the Red Baron since I was a kid. Aged about 10 at primary school I did one of my two 'controversial' paintings in art class.....The Red Baron in flight with clouds. I thought it was a masterpiece....next morning mine was the only painting missing from the classroom. Apparently our 'Headmaster' was a Frogman for the Allies during WW2, and had seen the painting, and consequently destroyed it. The story goes he used to swim out to enemy ships and plant explosives on them. That explains why he could swim underwater for at least 100m without surfacing...it was his party trick at our school swimming competition days.

Many years later I joined a Diecast Forum, and created my version using Hotwheels toys - the Red Baron was a Tag Team effort with a friend in New York - I built the basic structure, and my friend (Smitty) painted and decorated it. We placed 4th with it. then Charger was done for me by Smitty as a Thank You gift later on. :)

Made these when I was a kid (I'm 55 now), but recently took the pictures. Glued the landing gear wrong on the Tri-Plane when I built it.
