The Roach

No car should ever go back together not being cleaned like new. I've destroyed gloves taking a pig apart. Going back together should be a clean glove free experience. Well done!!
Totally agree....it gives me the sh1+s when I watch car shows and the guys are hanging filthy parts on the car - for the last time. :mob:

Would you be as happy with the results?

Not me.

no actual "car guy" would ever farm out the entire job; even if he had the money

I'm always amazed at the amount of people who own classic cars who have no idea how to wrench on them. The guy I bought my latest 68 Charger from last year was one.

When I was doing all of the sheet metal replacement on the charger, if there was an area that I had questions about or just wanted to pick the guys brain about, I would look for the cars that had the photo albums out showing all of the metal replacement and then ask them. I'd say 90% of the guys said that they either bought the car done and the pictures were from the previous owner or that they had a shop do their work...

Yeah, imagine what it would have cost if I farmed out the whole job …. an additional 75 - 100 grand?
I'm hoping (fingers crossed) since I'm keeping things original (drums, etc) and not adding anything (AC, etc) that it will take less time to reassemble. Then again, you've done this a time or two, so I should probably plan on 6 months.

If you can spend, on average, few hours per day, 6 months is a good estimate for reassembly. Keep in mind that I had everything cleaned up and most all parts sourced and ready to go months in advance of the car coming home.

Understood - I expect to have everything ready for reassembly when the car arrives. Including the front suspension, engine, etc on the K-frame dolly ready to go.

Looks great so far RC/Mark

can't wait for the 1st video of it running & driving
should be an absolute blast to drive & ride in

one if not my favorite builds/threads here

I agree.....the amount of times my "done" cars have had small **** try and leave me in a parking lot or just get finicky would leave those who can't wrench stranded for a tow truck. My wife laughed last year when my starter was acting up so we parked on a hill. She had no idea why we rolled forward then boom popped the clutch and she fired right up and we drove home. **** like that makes me wonder how those who can't basic wrench atleast can own these old heaps and get lucky with no issues. Even brand new parts die so quick now adays its always something even if its little. That car looks awesome man glad it came together so nicely!
