so i have a stethoscope that i used to listen around the motor while it was running and the chattering is coming from the bellhousing. well i can say that when i pulled the motor there were marks in the housing directly below and above the flywheel. i grabbed the input shaft and tried to see if it budges and i really couldnt move it, but im thinking the chattering is from the torque converter bouncing up and down. so my question is... where can i find an input shaft bearing for a 727 searching the web and found nothing. any ideas?!

Try wittrans.com. They've had all the rebuild parts I need for a 904 and exploded diagrams.

You may have a loose or broken flexplate, there are no input shaft bearings on a 727, just bushings. I would think that if a bushing was bad enough to cause that much wobble, you would be leaking tranny out of the bellhousing. I hope that helps.

ok so here is what i have. i pulled the motor on my 74 roadrunner and rebuilt the 360 motor. i took the small block flex plate off and put on a new big block flex plate and a torque converter out of a 70 satellite with a 440. Before mating the tranny with the motor, i noticed fluid from the front pump, thinking it wass the seal, so i replaced the input shaft seal...before i pulled the motor you cn here something hitting the tunnel above the transmission. when trans was out, i noticed the trans had gouge marks above and below the torque converter. so some how the torque converter is wobbling

ill look into it. but somethings up, thanks!

the 360 is externally balanced u cant use a 440 converter if it is an internal balance 440 because it will vibrate ur guts out,, dont ask how i know, this happened 25 plus yrs ago to me!!!! i put a 360 converter back in and it smoothed out but i did have to change the flex plate cuz the vibration broke it in several areas when i ran the 440 converter

that would make sense but what i dont get is that i had the motor running for roughly 4 hours before this sound started happening. so i think ill be buying a new harmonic balancer, torque converter and a full trans rebuild kit. and goin from there

Before you do anything, I suggest you check the torque on the 4 flexplate/tq converter bolts.
If you find any loose, I would suggest a little thread locker be applied before retorquing. HTH.

already checked that, theyre all tight. thinking ill just rebuild the tranny and throw in a brand new torque converter and hopefully thatll fix it

Yes you have to make sure you use a T/Converter that is made for that motor. All cast crankshaft Mopar engines I have run across have external balancing. That is done with a special harmonic balancer, and a special T/C. All forged crank motors are internally balanced. So the T/C is zero balanced. You cant mix the 2 types in any combination. The one exception to this is the 440 6 Pak engine uses a special harmonic balancer. It has external balancing due to the heavier con rods.

The 1970 440 torque converter from the Satellite would have internal balancing. Because that engine uses a forged crankshaft. You can tell the ext bal T/C because it will have 1 or 2 weights welded to it.

ig block and small block flex plates are different! Also Hemi is different from Big block.

so this past weekend i installed a new torque converter and flexplate for the small block and a new fuel pump as well. and the sound is still there. i was thinking harmonic balancer...so for shits. i took it off and started it real quick and still made the noise. so its behind the timing cover, hopefully not further than that
