Hey guys, I’ve got a mess on my hands can anyone help me out with the wiring for this alternator? From the looks of it it doesn’t make any sense...

year and make,engine would help.
The car will run so it can’t be that far off but the green and brown being twisted together another greenish blue that appears to go to the alternator and the blue wire that’s all melted to goes to that harness in the back of the engine

Yes, study the wireing in the FSM then buy the correct guage wire, colors and connectors to rewire the harness. Napa has everything you need. Or you might find an aftermarket harness.

Well seeing as I did an all in one HEI distributor a while back and for lack of better terms “hotwired” it into the existing ignition system I’ve decided to take the high road and make a new harness and Clean up the bay a bit. First things first gotta pull the loom off this one to have a reference. What a great way to spend a Sunday morning #lovewiring

Having trouble identifying these three here. The white one was clipped to a bolt on the block. The green w/red stripe and brown were twisted together by the alternator. what are the chances they are AC wires from when the car was stock? The fender tag reads it should be an AC car but the compression likely never made the transition when they swapped the 340 in

Advice and if it was me, I would buy a new wiring harness and a factory service manual
Sounds like throwing money away to me.
Let’s pay $100+ for 9 6’ strands of wire and a few connectors. Not the manual part. That helped out a lot but the “throw it away and buy a new one” mentality I try to avoid

You wouldn't say that if the old, bad wiring causes a breakdown when you least expect it, or worse, a fire. How old are these wires ? Depending on conditions, they may be brittle, connectors corroded, etc. A lot of these cars have been cobbled with the wires a disaster.

Built vs bought sir. It cost me about3 hours and 26 bucks in wiring and connectors to rewire it myself.
