Planning a build for my 73 roadrunner this winter, this is my first mopar build and looking for suggestions. Here is my thoughts:

Stock 440 crank
H-Beam Rods
Forged flat tops
Indy Max Wedge heads and single plane intake
Cam with 500ish lift, going to ask indy for suggestions
850 cfm quickfuel carb
1 7/8 headers, 3" pipes.

Is that enough carb for this combo? Cam suggestions?

Finally, thoughts on horsepower with this setup? I'm hoping to hit 400 at the tires.

Any help appreciated!!

Sure 400 is all you want? W/ a manual you're talking 460-475hp. That should be as easy as falling down the stairs w/ the induction system you're talking and a super mild cam.

Oh I want all I can get! Just didn't want to be unrealistic with horsepower expectations. I suffer from "while I'm in there..." So just want to do it right is all

As for the carb you can get away with it. I use an 850 DP on my 493 that runs 10.70's in my 63 Sport Fury but I really could use more carb. I agree you could get way more agressive with your build and get much more hp. Ron

The amount of power you want depends on what you are willing to put up with or sacrifice. If those heads have larger than stock valves then you might consider 2" primary headers. 850 should be plenty for a street car assuming that's what you're building.

The car will be used as a weekend warrior and see Friday nights at the track, so she will need some street manners but not many. I do want a bit of room to grow, but want to buy the last top end that I will ever need, then build from there. We have long winters so I always need something to do!!

Compression ratio?

Car weight?

How much $ you want to spend on cam/valvetrain, ie, hyd or solid flat tappet or roller??

Looking at 10.5:1, car is stock other than 440 and exhaust (original 400 car) and money doesn't really matter, but wanted to lean towards hyd. roller, roller rockers etc (big order from indy)

Ball parking the engine build at $10K, probably spend 15....
