Can you convert a 3 speed column shift to a automatic floor shift with the original console? I know I would have to loose the bench seat that I love.

Also, is there an overdrive conversion for the 727?

Yep can be done. Mine was column shift, now its on the floor. No console tho as I still have my bench. You just need to get a floor shifter + install = enjoy.

No direct fit overdrive replacement for the 727, there is one that required minimal mods to the trans tunnel to work, but I don't remember the name; A something? We don't have any in Australia so I haven't really looked into it too hard.

You can get a Gear Venders Overdrive add-on for the the 727, it replaced the tailshaft section and gives you overdrive in each gear. Pricey, but pretty trick bit of kit.

Most definitely yes and you can keep your steering column too. I think the key would be to use a cable-driven automatic shifter & find one that can be positioned under your console & come through the stock console shifter hole...maybe an old, basic B&M shifter? Maybe find a shifter you can attach one of those pistol-grip handles too? You'll likely have to build something (wood blocks?) to position the shifter just right whichever one you choose.

Gonna assume a 1970 Runner.

I did mine with a lokar floor mount unit, reused the stock tree shift steering column. Mounted a sunpro tack on the boss for a clean install. No console tho.
