Timing issue

My charger with the stroker likes 25 or so initial at idle. The problem is the hot start. Alot of these performance motors with the newer fuel will like alot of initial timing. My little 360 in my powerwagon with the bigger cam and heads likes 20 degrees at an idle.

Yea I am with him^^ What motor, combo of parts are we talking?
What size stroker that wants 25 initial ? My 505 will balk when hot at 22, running 21 now. --Bob

Running intial and starting initial are two dif animals :).....Thats why its at 20 right now because it wont start at 25+. If I had a timing retarder to start it it'd take 25 all day long.... my motor loves tons of intial timing. Its a 500 cu in stroker but has a BIG cam which loves the timing.

Just go with a 'Summit' electronic replacement and all of us will talk again. Way too much play in your distributor. I just put a Summit replacement in mine and couldn't be happier.

This one might be equivalent to the "summit", but it lists the vacuum and mechanical curves being adjustable. Nice feature for tuning and its a few bucks cheaper than the summit one. I would watch out for the "cheap" proform brands as I have heard a **** ton of bad reviews on those when I was shopping for my power wagon engine build last winter.

Isn't that a stock points distributor?

Yeah, has shaft up and down wear, but not something that couldn't be fixed. Whole distributor probably needs to be overhauled...that's not that hard to do! Checking advance springs and weights would be part of it. If their serviced right, they can last a long time.
But, if you want to go electronic, go for it.

I ordered this one and hope it will solve my problems. I live in sweden so it take 3 weeks until it arrives.
The more I think about it, it make sense. My engine run great over 2500 but standing still on burnouts it hesitates. I thought it could be something wrong with converter. I have a 3000 stall, but I bought it on Ebay and you never know if you get the right parts.
I thank you all for helping me. This forum is really great.

Awesome! Glad to help! Let us know how you make out. You can adjust the timing curve in that distributor as well which will help if you have a big cam. Stock 25 degree mechanical curves give ya 10 degrees at idle with 35 total timing and that isn't any good for any performance motor at all.

I got my new distributor today, and yes it was something wrong with my old one. It´s pitch black here after working hours, so I did a quick adjustment 12 degrees at idle and 35 at 3000rpm. At the moment I have blue springs on the weights. I also did a quick check on vacuum and it seem to be a bit low.(8 inch hg) I probably need to tune my carb or maybe I have a vacuum leak?
I will check it out this weekend.
