Im putting fresh emblems on my hood scoop. NOS 340 Four Barrel emblems. Any tips for starting the acorn nut? I know you twist it on and thus cut in the threads. Should I start the threads with the emblem off the car or while they are in their spot?

Reason I ask is because the scoop internals are a little cramped for my big mits and it would be much easier outside the scoop.

I'm not sure of your specific set-up, but I've had good luck just putting the nut inside a deep socket and then pushing that onto the stud and twisting it on to get it started. The nuts usually rest on the end of the socket because of their design, allowing you to use the socket as a handle so you can reach into tight spaces.

I hope my description makes sense. If not I can try and take a picture. I'd have to find one, though. I just moved and my garage is in disarray.

it is easier to have the threads cut on the studs before placing them it tight quarters for assembly. Here is a trick I learned from a older mopar mechanic, he told me to take a piece of sheet metal drill the stud locations, place the emblem and then screw the nuts on the studs. Reason for doing this if you try to screw the nuts on the studs while holding the emblems in you hand you could bust the emblems or studs off.

Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.
