Tire and wheel size for 65 Coronet

What is the widest wheel and tire you fit under a 65 coronet without doing any mods?

275/60/15, or 295/50/15 for the rear. 245/60/15 for the front.

Rear will depend on backspace, front use a 4 inch backspace.

I have I believe 275/50/15 with 10" steel rims on a 65 satillite but, I don't remeber the backspace on them I had them custom made.

I have a stock 1965 Coronet with 12" ( 305 mm ) wide Mickey Thompson Sportsman SR on my rear with 10" x 15" x 4.5" backspace wheels. I had to install new springs to keep the rake of the rear of the car up ( not a lot though ) they fit and look great.

I have 275/60/15s on 15x8 TT w/4" backspacing in back. They required minimal clearancing on the inner fender well to work nicely on my '65 Coronet wagon

I went with 275/50/17 tires on 17x8 rims with a +12mm offset (5"). Tire gets pulled within 5/8" of the leaf spring.

I have posted some semi clear pictures (my new smart phone sucks) of my set up as it is now. I have the shackles on yet that I used to get my baseline of how much arc to put in the new springs. They fit and I have had people ride in the back with no noticeable bottoming out or tire rub. My new problem is I bought 26" tall tires that matched the factory height so I wouldn't have to change the speedometer gear. I do not like the look of the 26" tall tires and if I go with 28" or 29" with my current set up I will have tire rub issues unless I jack up the back more which I don't want to do. My plan is to mini tub & narrow mine and solve the problem once and for all. If that option isn't for you then I would recommend maybe going with 295 mm or 275 mm as you should be able to go taller if needed with no issues.

Before I mini-tubbed, the biggest tire I could fit on my '65 Coronet was a 275-60X15 on a 7" wheel with a 4" backspace. After minitubbing and moving the springs in, 12.5X29.5X15 Hoosiers.

My 62 Dart has 275/60R15 on 8" wheels with 4.5" back space - fits perfect.

Please clarify..Did you fit this tire on those rims under a bone stock 1965 with only more spring arc. No recolation of springs? looks like your wheel well top is only about 1-1 1/2 inches above the rim beed?

I have 275/60/15 on 15x8 4.5bs on my stock 65 coronet. I have to keep air in the rear shocks or I do get rub around turns on the inside of the quarter.

Mine was stock but since that picture I have had the springs moved, mini tubbed and the frame notched to fit wider tires.

Does anyone know if a 18” x 7.5” (+50) rim fit under a stock 1965 Dodge Coronet 440, 4 door? Front and rear? There is a great deal on FB.
