Tire question 1968

I am sure this is the billionth time this question has been posted, but I cant seem to find a thread on it. I am wanting a big fat tire and wheel combo on the back of my 68 Satellite. I want to use a fifteen inch wheel. Anybody know how wide a wheel will fit and what backspacing? How big of tire on that wheel. I am wanting to keep the wheel and tire somewhat tucked up in the rear also. Not wanting to raise the rear of car to clear a tire. Sorry to ask this same ol' question, but I gotta know.:edgy:

Not sure if the Plymouth well is quite as large as a Dodge, but you can fit 295/70X15s with standard back spacing on a Dodge B body.

Once upon a time I had a set of 10" slicks on one of my 69 runners mounted on (probably) 14" TTD wheels (an original set). The only way I could get them on was to jack the car on a frame rail and let the housing sag as low as it would go. Then they would barely go on.

I've got 15 x 10's with zero offset on the back of my '68 Satellite with 295/50-15 BFG radial TA's. It's a pretty tight fit but it works. If memory serves they are about 1/2" from the outside fender lip and about 3/4" from the inside of the wheel well/leaf spring. It looks good pretty good but I'd like a little taller tire at some point...thinking 275/60-15's. Before you do anything you better do some careful measurements to make sure zero offset is right for your car. If you need we could compare axle dimensions.

WOW!!! I would love to see that!!! If it is not to much trouble could you post some pics of your car on this thread? I would really love to see how that much meat looks on the back. I am getting ready to put a set of wheels and tires on mine. I have the 8 3/4 rear end I will see if I can get some measurments.

Almost everything I was going to say has been said but one thing I can't stress enough are your measurements. I have seen way too many rears (out of the factory) that were not centered (the worst case, being almost an inch off-center). With your desire to place the largest wheel/tire combo on your car, check these measurements carefully and if need be correct them or as some people do, just use the largest wheel/tire combo that will fit the deficient side. BTW: I have also known a few people that did neither of the above and ordered different backspacings to make up for the difference. Good luck.

Here are a couple pics of my Satellite. To answer the engine question, no, I built a .030 over 360 with ARP main studs with a windage tray, with recon stock rods with ARP bolts and cheapo SpeedPro pistons. I've got a Comp XE262 cam in it with bone stock '78 360 heads shaved .025. Compression is around 9:1 topped with a Professional Products Cross Wind intake, 1" 4 hole spacer and a Edelbrock 750 AFB. I've got cheapo headers, Flowmaster 40's and 2-1/2" pipes all the way back. What do you have in yours?

Thanks Runner, Fronts are 245/60-15 on 15 x 8's with zero offset.

SatelliteMan what brand and name of wheel are you running. My 73 Charger needs a set of them. Right now it has 265/50/15 Cooper Cobra's rear on a 15X8 2" off set wheels. Front is 235/60/15 Cooper Cobra's on 15X7 zeroi off set wheels.
